Media touting tonight as The Shedaur Show

You know what’s embarrassing? Media/ social media touting someone who played in one preseason game as a star.

lets slow down the press grasshoppers. Until I see him play against ones against non Panther defense….and actually put up numbers I’m going to hold judgement

And had he not looked good then you would have said “see, he sucks”. All I know is that he looked like a first round quarterback. If he works out, like Mr. Ochocinco said, some people are getting fired. He’s a massive brand and him being successful could completely shift the vibe in Cleveland, sort of how Can did for Charlotte.

Through one preseason game, Shedeur is 13th in passing yardage, 16th in completion percentage, and 20th in passer rating with few starters playing. The way a lot of people and the sports media is acting you would've thought he was the clearcut best QB in the preseason but he's actually very middle of the pack. Just keep in perspective y'all. He struggled against starters and primary backups and played well against camp bodies who won't be on a roster in a couple of weeks.

The "few starters playing," perhaps any, goes both ways, LinvilleGorge. He played well with "camp bodies who won't be on a roster in a couple of weeks." He's been playing with them since the beginning too.

But, If Mary K Cabot is correct, then Browns execs are "keeping it in perspective:"

"The truth is, while the start was exciting and promising, Sanders is likely still a longshot to beat out Joe Flacco and win the starting job out of the gate," Cabot said. "Granted, he brought the juice and gave the Browns a much-needed spark, but he still has a long way to go before he can go head-to-head with Burrow in the opener and then venture into M&T Bank Stadium against the Ravens' vaunted defense and play as fast as he'd need to."

The Newsweek writer, Evan Massey, gave clarification on Cabot's remark:

"Basically, Sanders had a good game but that was as far as it went. He's still not viewed as a legitimate starting caliber quarterback in Cleveland."

Massey feels like many people do though:

"Since falling in the 2025 NFL Draft to the fifth round, Sanders has been discounted by the media. He was projected to be a first or second round pick for a reason. The talent is there for him to be a very special player in the NFL."

No I wouldn’t say he sucked, because I don’t fnging care. I think it’s stupid how people are anointing a player (any player) a star after one preseason game.

pretty pathetic basing a preseason game for someone’s performance. I don’t care who the person is. Especially against 2nd and 3rd strings.

I like Shedaur but nobody is talking about the Panthers at all I hope we prove them wrong tonight

Not true, I've heard the Panthers mentioned multiple times in the off season.  Recently Ocho Cinco on nightcap has saying he likes the Panthers WRs .I saw Dan Morgan getting interviewed on the Pat MacAfee show and they sometimes talk about us. I think the media sentiment has been generally fairly positive about them this off season. Although expecting us to get a cowboys like constant coverage won't happen unless we maybe win 5 super bowls lol

I guarantee you, there would be a lot more coverage if we won more games. Its that simple . Being a constantly losing or mediocre team for the most part its hard to get people beyond your own fans to care about mentioning the team often

LG some of your best posting Id ever seen.

Ill just add, sanders since middle school has had the best coaching Neon Deon could buy. He called in all his favors and got the best offered.

He made NFL throws. Yes against 3rd string and don't know his weakness or game plan.

I haven't seen one person anoint him a star. Now I have seen people say that his performance was not surprising, and I have seen people say that his performance was an affirmation that QB needy teams shouldn't have let him drop, and I'd say they are absolutely right. And, as I've said, the 2nd and 3rd string thing goes both ways, because that's all of what he's been playing with (even fourth stringers), and we all know that that's a big disadvantage. He deserves a better shot than he's been given, and, I dare say, he looked like a viable NFL QB.

It would seem that people are simply hating on him unnecessarily for whatever reasons.

Yes....While this is fair and true. I think you can say the same thing for the mannings and any other player who has had a father in the league. They all grew up in the environment watching their dads, got better training, and mentorship to prepare them to get to the pros. And at same time it doesn't guarantee anything for a lot of them. A lot of them dont get drafted high, not drafted at all, and lastly never even play a real down. Thats why the narrative from certain folks that shedeur hasn't put in any real work to get this far on his own just completely has no basis. The same goes for other players, all that stuff above only helps you so much.

My post wasn't meant to discount Sanders, just to explain why he played well in my eyes. I know others are trying to pick him apart and its just ONE pre=season game and all. But imo, he played about as well as any 5th rounder could given everything going. I mean...... even his pre-game walk-in was a "show" and he came to play. I was thinking "this is why you dropped to the 5th"....... Then I watched the game and just like in the draft mega thread- "I wanted to draft him in the 4th or 1000000% in the 5th". let me check the quote wizard......

He struggled against starters? He got the offense to the Panthers 21, where Stefanski in his infinite wisdom went into an empty set, where Wonnum, I believe, made it into the backfield virtually untouched in about 0.62 seconds.

The first drive should have been extended but Johnson missed a catch and I believe their tight end, or slot receiver, didn't get the correct depth on a hitch.

I don't think he struggled against any of the Panthers defense if I'm being honest. And if that's what his struggling looks like, then trade for him now. I've seen struggle the past two years, that wasn't it.

    • Went to school in MD when this came out. Dance floor got CRAZY when this joint came on!
    • They had best show out in Week 1 there are zero,I mean zero,  excuses for that offense  defense, haven’t play together yet and they still have Mr Soft and Predictable as DC  I expect break downs at times  …but that offense returns all starters except Tremble and both Mayes and Brady are veterans and can play LG and know the system not up for any participation awards this season they can save that practice energy for Jacksonville.     I’m sick of the, winning,  or looking competitive, when it doesn’t matter.
    • There are some tough decisions that I'm eager to see the results of... Does Blackshear sneak on to the roster as RB4? Does the team go with 4 TEs or just 3 again? And has Mitchell Evans done enough to defend his roster spot from James Mitchell? Who is WR6 and is there a WR7? TMac, XL, Coker, and AT seem to be locks imo and I'm assuming Renfrow also makes it due to all of the camp praise. Who makes it between Brycen Tremayne, Jimmy Horn Jr, and David Moore? If the team goes with 7 WRs, which one of those three doesn't make it? Jacolby George and Emani Bailey both have not gotten a lot of game time. Could the Panthers be trying to hide them so that they can be stashed on the PS? Do they go with 10 OL instead of 9? Who makes it out of Walton, Carter, and Kingston? DL locks are DB, BB3, ARob, and Turk. That leaves Jaden Crumedy, Cam Jackson, Sam Roberts, Shy Tuttle, and LaBryan Ray all competing for the final 1 - 3 spots. Does DJ Johnson get IR'd and Thomas Incoom make the roster as EDGE5? What in the fuuuuuuuuuuuuck is going to happen at LB? Only locks seem to be Wallace, Rozeboom, and Cherelus (Wallace has mentioned in media how Cherelus has been big bro for him on the team). Rhattigan had some good moments against Houston, Martin-Scott is an SC guy, Krys Barnes has popped on defense and on special teams, and Windmon got time starting for the team last season. Are two of those guys going to make it or are the Panthers poaching from another team's cuts? CB5... who is it? Do they go with the 4 expected safeties or bring in a 5th? Has Ransom done enough to take the start from Nick Scott?
