And a linebacker who was the management student of the last guy who was GM here. That guy wasn't exactly football Yoda. And Morgan was never the brightest bulb in the bin. Remember how he used to make sure that he took the head off of every rookie LB during the first training camp day? Ended one guy's career. Then, well, Morgan himself had to call it a career because of concussions himself.

We could have done better somewhere out there for a manager choice. We just let the last guy fall on his sword and promoted his caddy.

And then hired his friend at HC who didn't even get a sniff from another team...

My sports news feed today is full of pretty much every sports outlet out there pondering WTF regarding the Panthers' starters getting not getting additional series against the Texas and not expected to play in the 3rd game after looking like garbage all preseason. Seems like the sports media as a whole is seeing and  thinking the same thing most is us are.

I am a sucker for some charlotte homer sport talk and even then, with their spinning of this game and how its only preseason yada yada yada every show was def like "WTF, they have to earn a 3rd series?"

Canales again is showing his green side

Morgan wasn’t a random hire.

The guy who helped advise Frank Reich on the epic poo show that was the 2023 offense….decided Morgan was the best guy for the job.   It’s still pretty comical how we went about things post Frank.  Largely just promoted within or kept most folks

Somehow going 3 and out twice and not competing a single pass…..isn’t earning the need for a 3rd series.  To me they earned the entire first half….and then laps around the stadium

Everything i have seen on this team this off-season -not that it has been much-  is a bunch of dudes, coach included walking around happy and smiling.

Makes me cringe.  We are and have been absolute trash for 10 years.  Smile when we take the division back.  This is the NFL.  It takes a different level of competitive fortitude to win.  I don't see it.

I dont think anyone posting on this forum or posting a video on youtube has a fraction on an idea of what it takes to get on a roster as an NF player year after year.  Can any of you say what its like to be the top 1.5% of your profession much less the top .4% of your profession that get recognition?

Lack of effort my ass

Did you watch the video? He said that

I think drawing a direct line from seeing coaches/players visibly smiling to being mad at the team is just a symptom of the anger you have at our situation.

There is nothing wrong with what you are describing. The issue is that the results are poor and have been for a long time. That's just sort of what it is at the moment and it puts us as the fans on edge.

IDGAF what the atmosphere they are creating is, if it's producing results. There are ample ways to skin that cat and different successful coaches have had different approaches.

I don't put very much into preseason. It is largely for confirmation bias. If the team or players do somethings well it confirms your hope they will be good. If they do somethings terrible, it confirms that they still have a long way to go. The main thing I took away from the video was how are we going to evaluate anyone with such terrible QB play from Dalton and Plummer.  I am thinking after starters get pulled meh, Dalton will make some noise. He is cooked and then Plummer comes in and looks like he has made zero progression. That to me is a reason for lack of effort on offense. There is frustration from the poor QB play. Plummer was scared to pull the trigger. Plus we still are building depth and have a lot of work to do in that regard. Our backups are mostly mediocre to garbage. It just looks like they are giving minimal effort because they aren't good. Then throw on top of all that, Canales and Evero are using the preseason to let their underlings call plays which is not exciting to fans or players. Lastly, I don't like how in the video he was wishy washy about joint practices vs. preseason games. The word out is that coaches value those practices much more and the word was that we looked at least competent in joint practice against the Texans. I have noticed that when we joint practice with a team leading up to a preseason game, the game product looks terrible for us.

For contenders I agree. For teams trying to change their culture and dig themselves out of the gutter of the league I think preseason is more important. Not the final score, but you want your starters and key reserves to go out there and look confident and build some confidence. We need to do that in the preseason and stop doing it by winning meaningless games at the end of throwaway seasons that do nothing but tank our draft stock. That approach has clearly not been working for us.

I am not talking about the strategy as much as I am talking about how fans and media view preseason.

Again, I think there's a difference there between contenders and bottom feeders. Contenders realize their team is basically just trying to stay healthy and evaluate the bottom of their roster. For bottom feeders those fans are desperately looking for some glimmer of hope to hang onto that this might be the year that we're gonna see actual improvement. We didn't get that.
