Kicker

We really have shot ourselves in the foot repeatedly at kicker over the past few years it seems like.

I don't care which option we choose, just as long as they don't turn out to be hammered dogshit. That's my big fear.

But, as I stated a few weeks ago, if we are losing games solely because of a FG kicker, I will be pretty pumped about how the season went.

It’s why we should be trying long term fits out. Wright is the only mismatch - he’s the type of guy a team scrambles to midseason when a kicker randomly implodes or has a freak injury.

I have gone to battle for Fitz in the forums before, and I stand by him now.  Let's see what he's got.

Not like a missed kick or two is going to keep us out of playoffs as it stands now with how we are performing on the field.  Let him get a true audition and move from there.

Can always pivot if it starts to go South.

Well, they're both in the same league (if you will). During preseason, Fitz went 3/3 & Sauls went 5/6, but of course Sauls was 4/4 last night (including one 50+).

Both were Lou Groza Award finalists. I believe Fitz made two 55+ yarders last season, while Sauls led the nation with three. Fitz was 13/13 (💯) while Sauls was 21/24 (87.5). Fitz was a 3rd-Team AP All-American, while Sauls was a PFF All-American.

Career-wise, Fitz was 58/74 (78.4), while Sauls was 52/64 (81.3).

I wish that I could see the attempts and knew the depth of yardage. I wish that we could compare practice kicks during their training camps, but we can't. Maybe someone with a PFF/CFF account can give that.

Basically it's just a matter of belief I guess. Seeing dude knock down four FGs and go perfect during a pressure-filled game for him is damned impressive if you ask me. I don't believe that Fitzgerald could do that.  That being said, I'd have to know more. I will say that it may be worth mentioning that we seem to like PFF this year and Sauls being a PFF All-American may be notable. Now that being said, the Panthers may not be even considering Sauls.

Preciate it.  Didn’t see much difference when I looked up their career long, so I didn’t know if it was because people just felt the power was noticeably different.

now that I read your more in-depth dive, and tbh, I know Fitz hit from 59 his last year at FSU, but seeing him barely clear the bar on that 52 yarder last week, I had flashbacks to Piniero.  It seems like Sauls has a better overall resume, and he also might just look better according to the eye test.  Im not convinced with Fitz.  So I’d be interested in giving Sauls a look.

All I know is whichever one we don't go with, will end up being an All-Pro somewhere else just like Butker

Butker has never been All Pro or even Pro Bowl.

Though Gano made the Pro Bowl the season we kept him over Butker

I don't know personally which guy would be right for us moving forward, but I do have faith that we will evaluate that situation thoroughly, come to a consensus and make the wrong decision.

You have just described the Panthers franchise the last 7 years.

This is honestly shocking

He's the 2nd most accurate kicker in NFL history, has only missed a handful of games in his career, twice lead the league in FGA, was the league leader in XPA and XPM in a season, and lead the league in points one year too (while also having the most FG's that season too).

Really surprising that he hasn't been named to either of those teams yet

    • Idk man, I think it’s necessary.  There’s people working 9-5s everyday that get told poo about what they aren’t and what they’re not capable of and they’re working for scraps.  These guys are making millions.  People are watching and invested because their team and fandom is a part of their identity and a big source of pride.  When someone like Bryce comes in and is given chance after chance after chance after proving he is not worthy of the position he’s being gifted, and he continues to be the biggest reason above any that we are losing, yeah…  I think it’s fair to call a spade a spade.  Am I saying Bryce the person is trash?  Bryce the person is a piece of poo?  Absolutely not.     I came up in an era, especially in basketball, where if you were fuging up people heckled the poo out of you.  I played in rec leagues as a teen where the fuging parents were calling kids trash and yelling poo like “TURNOVER!!!  TURNOVER!!!”  “CANT DRIBBLE!”  “CANT SHOOT!”  And that’s adults screaming that poo to kids like we were in the fuging Rucker lol.🤣🤣🤣  I went on to play basketball at a collegiate level and with professional players in different settings.  What those experiences as a kid taught me was to see if there is any merit to what people are saying, and if there is, then work my ass off til they can’t say that anymore.  Come back better, tougher, harder.  And I did.  If kids can figure that poo out, an adult calling another adult who is bad at his job while making millions and millions of dollars will be just fine.
    • I have tried to like this team, lord knows I have tried. BY9 is a nice young man, if I had a daughter he can take her to prom, but he ain't QB1 and he's not Cam or Delhomme Chuba is a average RB, he isn't Stephen Davis, he isn't J-Stew McMillan has the makings of a good WR, but he isn't 89/Moose D. Brown is a great player, but if the game was on the line I want Kris Jenkins       I miss this brand of football, even in the bad Jake games the games were entertaining It has been nearly 8 years now of watching numb football
    • I'm not so sure. Something about the whole Frank/Bryce situation seemed off from day 1. Bryce didn't fit Frank's QB mold as well as Stroud, then he basically gives up when Bryce is named starter in preseason but gets virtually no reps in games. Then he looks completely unprepared and Dalton steps in in Seattle, has a decent game under immense pressure, and it's right back to Bryce. All his mechanics are terrible and he's having the worst rookie season ever and Frank doesn't bench him?  You dont have to be a conspiracy theorist to know Bryce wasn't ready to be a day 1 starter. Everything with Bryce, then coaches, and the FO seemed forced.
