Panthers Bringing in Newton for Visit

Gus's first year at Auburn was very good. Their quarterback Todd had a much improved year. He threw for 2600 yards, 8 yards per attempt, 22 TDs versus 7 Ints. He didn't run like Newton did but he was the athlete Cam is either. The three quarterbacks combined threw for over 2800 yards with 25 TDs versus 9 Ints and a combined passe rating of 143. They also ran for another 2800 yards and another 24 TDs and a 5 yard per carry average.

Their system putsup big numbers.

I guess my argument is pretty dumb if you assume that the Panthers new OC is not smart enough or flexable enough to tweak his play calling to take advantage of a big athletic QB just like Auburns' OC did.

It's funny because I've been told over and over that this new coaching staff will be more aggressive and more creative than the last one. I just don't see how that's going to happen with Clausen or Billy Volek running the show.

My only argument would be that you can't say it is worthless.

Pretty rock solid huh?? :sifone::sifone:

Look back at the actual history of the guys who have previously won the Heisman and/or the National Championship, then come back and tell me again why it's a mark in anyone's favor.

You wanna argue for Newton? Fine, but using that particular point is silly when you look at the guys it's applied to previously.

I do think coming from a winning program is an important part of the evaluation process. So it isn't worthless. It might not be worth a lot but is has some value.

Rivera agrees with you, because he mentioned the fact that Cam was a winner in his interview, and he also said he has good pocket presence. I guess he's just a dumb ass fan too.

You really don't know how to handle anything bad being said about Cam. Look back at facts and tell me how important it is in terms of NFL success winning the Heisman and/or national championship is.

Should we link my thread full of pictures of guys that went undefeated and won the Heisman?

Who I want is a bit of a silly question and there are so many different options for them I can't narrow it down. Here's what it could look like in a few different scenarios

The guys names aren't necessarily who they are but what they represent: Newton=Drafted Rookie, Moore=younger guy that could still develop into a full time starter,Clausen=deadweight, Volek = Mentor Vet

Newton/Moore/Clausen

Newton/Volek/Clausen

Moore/Volek/Clausen

Moore/Volek/Newton

I think the bolded is the most likely.

I would be happiest with Moore/Palmer/Kaepernick then Moore/Volek/Draft Pick

You'd start Matt Moore over anybody in the NFL, wouldn't you? That's sad. Also, you described Moore the same way most people describe Clausen.

Yeah, sadly there are still Panther fans who think Matt Moore is going to be a Pro Bowler. Sorry, folks, that ship has sailed. He's not even under contract anymore and won't be re-signed. He had his chance and was obviously not the answer.

Don't say that, you'll crush TheRealDeal's fantasy, then he won't be back here to bless us with his arrogant, biased commentary.

I don't think Moore is the answer. I do think he fits Fox's offense better than Jimmy and fits what Rivera/Chud are gonna do better than Jimmy.

    • Some people will shift the goal posts but he does still have to consistently help the team win, eventually. Not only help but be the reason. That's what franchise QB's do.
    • One of the Carolina Panthers' newest defenders thinks their pass rush can go from worst to first. ESPN's David Newton recently chatted with outside linebacker Pat Jones II, who signed with the Panthers as a free agent earlier this offseason. Jones comes over from an awfully impressive Minnesota Vikings defense—one that ranked first in takeaways (33), fourth in sacks (49) and second in QB pressure rate (44.4 percent) this past season. And despite a historically-bad campaign by Carolina's defense in 2024, the 26-year-old seems to believe his new unit can be similar—or even better—than his last. "I definitely think we could do something similar, if not better," Jones said, via Newton. "I've seen it before, so I know what it looks like. I look around the building and see we have exactly what it takes to do that." https://pantherswire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/panthers/2025/05/24/panthers-pat-jones-vikings-espn/83840667007/?taid=683219b347846900018fa10a&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=trueanthem&utm_source=twitter     It's the offseason.  Let hope spring eternal. (actually, I think we are much closer than this board thinks)
    • 5 total TDs against the Falcons was pretty good efficiency and he showed that ability to go off scripts and get 2 of those TDs rushing.  How many times did he deliver big time throws against pressure.  I agree we need to see this offense operate at high efficiency which starts with Bryce. When he does I hope the goals posts won’t shift to some other stat like QB sneaks lol
