How does Evero still have a job

this is probably the least athletic group of linebackers I've ever seen in Carolina. They are small and slow. I don't know what Evero is supposed to do out there.

Evero wants to be gone; tepper refused to release him from his contract. There is nothing to work with out there.

Maybe not run Cover 3 10 yards off LOS with no blitzing every play?

Nothing is small or slow about Wallace.

Small and slow are apparently two of our scouting goals.

Everyone on the team is one or the other -- a few standouts are both.

Most undersized LBs ever, slowest DEs, tiniest QB, slowest WRs...

Really, I think this team could be whipped by 53 Todd Sauerbrun clones, especially if he was still taking the testosterone supplements.

And yeah, Evero...  is Tepper punishing him or just us?

I mean, I will say, Andy Dalton looked good in week 3 last year in a similar situation which sadly, realistically is and would be when teams would click if they didnt really put the work in preseason.  I dont think they need to play 100% of the snaps preseason, but they clearly do not look like team that is mentally or physically prepared for NFL football in week 1.  I do put a TON of onus on Bryce, I think if he were the strong leader, hed push Canales to go back out after that pitiful week 2 preseason, but its NOT all on him.  XL not getting 2 feet in is an egregious disgusting mistake and it COMES from lack of preparation.  Quite honestly, skill wise, it looked like Chuba and Nalo put the time in also looked like the Line aside from Corbett did fine, but Dowdle...looked like eh...and the rest of  the skill guys looked very rough.  Renfrow ran decent routes I guess.

All Im saying is IF you are going to play your starters late in the 4th quarter of a meaningless WEEK 1 of the NFL season blowout, when those SAME STARTERS could get injured and lose time the rest of the season EXACTLY like a preseason game just to get them reps, then it makes not only no, but mind numbing amounts of negative sense to say "we wont play them in the preseason cuzz they could get hurt"

No, XL's flaws all come from him not being an NFL caliber player, like many Panthers WR draft picks before him.

Like I said, I don't really put much stock into those preseason reps at all. Never have.

Competitive will still TBD for this season. I had predicted all offseason we were a 4-7 win team and I am really all about the "how does it look." Right now, terrible.

Also wanted answers on Bryce, Ikey, XL, young guys, offseason additions, etc.

Right now, Bryce has been answered. He isn't the guy. I am fine with that, better to know now and pivot quickly in the offseason. The rest of the questions.....well....not great so far.

Lots of games left. Hopefully we get to see some sense of direction.

He did well with someone else's defense.

This is true… but also signals that he can coach a competent defense with talent. Which we lack because we invested all of our resources into supporting Young.

And today we gave up 26, but that included two picks and a lost fumble and two times we turned it over on downs. If we had a semi capable offense capable of sustaining drives and not giving terrible field position maybe our D looks okay

Because Bryce is sooooo bad that no defensive coordinator could ever look good...

But yeah, evero still sucks

the whole offense sucked today. Yes Byrce made bad plays but so did everyone else and

    • I am no football savant as has been demonstrated here over and over, but I saw it.  I went for years doing the mock draft thing and researching the players that we might get around our pick, time consuming stuff. And we would get to the draft and trade the pick. All that time, wasted.  So I quit doing that. Also realized I was not a scout and would never be a scout and went to looking the videos and reports After  we picked a guy.  Maybe I would look at the 1st round, but quit that too and just looked after we picked.    When they did that trade I saw Bryce and his size and just ruled him out. Then it got to yeah they are probably going to take him, I relented and looked at some video and got to his pro day. It took me all of a few minutes to see the issues. The footwork. The arm. And the tape of games? The backyard style. I knew, what can I say?  (Also, went down the physical checklist, not a single plus attribute on the NFL level. Arm, speed, size, etc, nothing to offset the negatives. nothing)  I think it was easy for me because I had not watched a single game he played in college, and wasn’t drawn in by the hype. Had no preconceived notions and just looked at it pretty clinically.  I got in here and everyone was going “but look at what he did in college! It is the SEC, if he can do it in the SEC he can do it in the NFL!” Couldn’t reason with hardly anyone.  I don’t think I could tell you which guy would succeed between two prototypical guys with great arms and athleticism, and have no special insight into any of that. My one calling in football scouting was to see the real about what we were about to do. And you still don’t know for sure until they get in a real game in the NFL.
    • Miss Bryce sorely is possibly the most hilarious statement I have read on the Huddle in quite some time.
    • He did only throw 1 pass 20+ in that game. I think he is still struggling to adjust to the NFL. At Alabama he was able to extend plays and play backyard football. That's not only not the style of offense we have been running but his physical skills don't lend themselves to that style of play at this level.  So, the amount of issues he actually has to clean up are WAAAAAY more than I anticipated as a guy that had Bryce #1 on my board in that draft class.  I am just not seeing a reasonable path for him to clean it all up and develop in a reasonable timeframe
