Hey You, You Don't Know Quarterbacking

It isn’t necessarily any different than people wanting to tank for a higher pick.

And I think that tank mentality is just absurd. Winning franchises aren't built on top-5 draft picks. They're built on Day 1-3 complete drafting, players that match scheme, coaches that know how to maximize their players' abilities, and winning the GM trade transactions versus their peers.

I'm sure the Bryce fanboys deem me co chair of the haters club.  But I was once a champion for Bryce and argued the Panthers were setting him up to fail (and the all star staff Frank Reich crew came for me then) lol.   I supported the org going all in on Bryce and a Bryce offense.   They opted not to do that and I merely accepted that reality.

They either had to 100% invest in Bryce and have that plan set up before they even picked him, which they obviously didn't, or never make that pick. Our front office and coaching staff were not prepared for Bryce and whether that's an immense failure of preparation on their part or he sold them a whole lot of poo in interviews, or a combination of both, whatever happened, the result has been a colossal shitshow all the way around.

Like I said before, I hope Bryce turns it around and becomes the franchise. But everything thats been done up until now by ownership and our front office could have been done better by a 5 year old playing Madden.

Whether you believe it is absurd or not, you can’t understand why people would feel that way?

Also, has anyone noticed how legitimately insane OP's post actually is?

It's taking credit(tongue in cheek, hopefully?) for some funny event from Huddle past, then explaining that because they now work for PFF they have some sort of super brain knowledge of football that they hadn't before.

It's actually mostly condescending in a way that lacks a lot of self awareness for.....a PFF stat nerd.

And I say that as a stat nerd myself.

While you're correct, people are just sick of being told, "you don't understand this, you're dumb" despite what their eyes say. This applies to the Panthers and anything else in life. This board can be a miserable place, but this isn't the old days anymore because Social Media & Reddit have hijacked old-school forum users.

I have in the last year or so taken a massive step back from Social Media & Reddit. Deleted accounts on both, I only have X/Twitter now. But I was looking for an outlet for Panthers talk and I did not want to do that on X much at all. There are only two legitimate outlets for that I've found, here and SB Nation. SB Nation I used to partake in, but they absolutely bumble-f*cked the comments section, and I like the setup of the posts + comments, as opposed to article + comments.

Also, as others have pointed out, being a Panthers fan has been a horrendous existence since Cam left. Just an awful crew of coaches, draft picks, trading away great players, etc. It's been miserable.

Ever since Tepper bought the team, I hoped that he commit to a full rebuild. He never did, he thought there were shortcuts and so did Rhule. This hamstrung us for years, and then he massively overstepped with the BY trade.

This ruined the team building, because there was no depth, and then it ruined nuanced BY discussions because of the insane haul we gave up. He will never live up to that, I think many people are finally wrapping their heads around that now which is good.

The best thing for this board to get better is for the Panthers to win more, draft well, and to stay committed to crawling through this Andy Dufrense poop-pipe to escape the depths of NFL hell. It will be ugly and stink along the way, but you can see already this year if we commit to drafting then the team and the vibes can turn around quicker than you think.

I am extremely optimistic about the draft class this season, it's something to watch, talk about, and celebrate. It also gives Dan and I think by extension Dave Canales more of a leash, which I think we need to give them and grant them the time to turn this boat around.

Cam was quite literally still under contract and they flip him for teddy.   We should have burned the stadium down

That was tough. There was a sense he was pushing for an extension if I remember, and at the same time was pretty degraded physically from what he was when that contract was written. So if he wants a re-commitment at QB market value, what do you do?
Without the benefit of hindsight, did you think he had any great years left in him at that time? To give him the rate of 30 million which I believe is what the better contracts had gotten to.

I have sure disagreed with about everything done under Tepper including Rhule and then Bridgewater so I am not defending that, it was just a tough spot to be in.

I think it has been so long ago that we saw great QB play that some people have literally forgotten what it looks like.

Watch NFL Redzone once in a while.

You know what I hate most about watching the Panthers now? That I really don't care that much about the outcome. Some of that is just age but I was in a casino sportsbook with a Jags fan this past Sunday and he is living and dying with all their plays. I remember that poo. Meanwhile, I am cracking jokes about the Panthers and either just laughing or shaking my head when fuged up stuff happened to us.

He was bummed about their loss and I really didn't care about the good win we just got against a hated opponent.

That's what really makes me pissed at what we have become. I watch out of habit and nothing else.

I completely agree.

I've found that I watch our games like an adult watching a little league game that their kid isn't playing in.  You can't help but shake your head and chuckle.  Why be upset?

Oh I am definitely well aware. Mostly my NFL consumption is watching all the games at once, if possible.

Let me tell you, it doesn't take that trained of an eye for differences fo start sorting themselves out pretty quickly.

I suppose some here would think Pat Mahomes, Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson would waltz in here and look just as bad as Bryce Young often has. I definitely don't think that.

Bryce is currently a bottom third to quarter active, starting QB in the NFL. It's visually very obvious most Sunday's.

The thing we are all waiting on is for him to be remotely consistent. Play well on a consistent basis. Not a handful of plays out if a game, not 1-2 games in a season. Do it more often than you don't do it.

Yeah and I also know the deep, dark truth behind why I don't get upset. Because I ultimately believe we are going to be bad for Tepper's entire tenure as owner. So why even bother having this hope for the future that normally drives all those strong emotions?

It's sad but it's where I have been for a while now. I think the Reich fiasco showed me the truth, finally.

Every round him begging the opposing fan base to out vote us and then basically abandoning the project at the end was hilarious.

iirc didn't he admit that the Panthers won the vote but he was giving it to the Chargers anyways?

He was never the same afterwards 💀💀

What's up gents, the OGs remember me, the guy who single-handedly gave the Panthers the greatest uniform in history moniker. Not too long after that I got involved with Pro Football Focus (pre-Collinsworth acquisition) and ended up taking backseat here to preserve some objectivity. But from a distance I noticed a lot.

So good to see you back! And what a great post. Hope to see more and more from you.

There have been some really rough years for the team and there's developed a crusty, cantankerous exterior to those who've stayed through it all.

Maybe a little sunlight is starting to peek through the cracks once again and this place can be more upbeat. And yes, maybe having Bryce as the QB as we improve might set the idea of what a QB is and how important the whole of a team is in its right spot.

We appreciate not just your return but your insight!

Here's your old days.

Same stuff.  Criticizing how Zod manages, how everyone here is a pre-teen.

We're all Peter Panned.  Locked in a self-cycling bubble.

Great re-read, my favorite was “The Laptop” saying that Cam was a bust, we should have waited a year to draft RG3. That was 1000% GRITS, probably on his 20th different username
