Gantt Says Longer Cam Talk Drags Out....

If we could move down to the Titans spot that would be awesome. We might still have a shot at Cam - or Dareus or maybe even A.J. Green. Still, I think the money is going to be what prevents it unless the new CBA includes a rookie wage scale that starts this year as opposed to next, which isn't what I've heard.

If that was true we would be talking up AJ Green or Bowers cause we don't need those guys. Cam Newton and Fairly are two players that are needs. Also everyone knows we need a QB and Newton is ranked #1. His stock is as high as it can get so No need to talk him up.

We? Like in the Panthers?

The Panthers are not talking anybody up. They interview people who could be interesting at number one. It is the media who talk the interview up with Newton because it is Newton. We will interview Green and Bowers also thats for sure.

Correct. I think it is erroneous thinking to assume that the Panthers would take him first overall based on what was said.

If our chances of drafting Newton increase due to the CBA dragging out, then the same is true for Gabbert.

Remove blinders, folks.

Actuallly the opposite is actually correct. The longer the CBA drags out the less llikely we are to take a quarterback at all. Given all the time it takes to develop anyone at QB, coaches will feel that the best approach is to take a player who can contribute immediately and wait until next year to take a Qb when we have more time to develop him and work with him to get value in 2012.

I think the longer it drags out must have been a reference to the whole selection process and vetting the draft choices not the CBA or Gannt is in opposition to general opinion about the effect of a drawn out CBA negotiation on us picking a Qb in the first.

Imagine SF trading up to grab Gabbert. Why us? Because we also need QB and we have other needs and Clausen. Buffalo needs a QB too. If SF needs a QB and don't like CN and they have fewer needs, they could make an offer. QB is their missing peice, while we have 4 missing pieces.

A lot will change after the combine and the six weeks that follow. There is a reason Gabbert decided not to work out. I wonder...

That's exactly what I said. People are suggesting that the only reason we are talking good about Newton is because we are trying to talk him up but that's not true.

I think Gnatt is clueless.

Hurney and the Front Office either have Newton on the radar or don't. Based on what Coach R said, HE IS on the radar.

All the talk in the world isn't going to make up their minds for them. They are going to evaluate him as a person in the interviews when he comes here, and review his combine performance this weekend. If they don't like something, he won't be a Panther, even if every person in the world says he is.

without a doubt, of all the guys in the draft, newton can be the biggest impact player out there and has the highest ceiling. if the panthers think he can reach anywhere close to his potential and have faith in shula to coach him right and chud to be able to get the offense tailored around his strengths and weaknesses, then you better believe the panthers will be drafting him.

what's going to be funny is watching all the haters reactions if they do draft him...and lol at thinking there will be a huge meltdown if cam isn't drafted. most of us on the luck bandwagon moved on. same thing is true of the cam wagon. i doubt that there are many of us who are on that wagon are anywhere close to being as sure of newton getting drafted as the haters in here are sure we won't.

i've hitched my wagon to newton, fairley, peterson, and green. i'd be completely happy with all of them, although i'm hoping that newton can convince hurney and rivera that he is worth the pick and could live up to his potential, in fact all of you should be hoping for that because that guy, could end up having more of a positive impact on this team and our fanbase than any player this decade or in the history of the franchise.

i just can't see why people wouldn't be hoping that he has overcome his past and that he could live up to his potential as a QB. the sky is the limit for this kid. why wouldn't we be hoping for the best for him and that he gets picked up by us...unless you have some bias against him for some reason.

Nobody is actually asking about those guys so he's not going to just start talking about them. I bet he'd have things to say about them since we're obviously looking at them.

:edited for correctness :D:D:D:D:D

nah, what I mean is that a lot of people don't expect us to take Cam ANYWAY and see him going at #3, so taking every chance you're asked about him to talk about him is good as it makes teams aware we just might.

:rolleye: Before its all over I would not be surprised if he had good things to say about allot of guys. There is no reason to talk people up when you have the 1st pick. We are just evaluating players and seeing who may fit at this point.
