NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports the Dolphins are open to trading S Minkah Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick was acquired earlier in the offseason in the trade that sent Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh. According to Schultz, the Dolphins have received “interest from multiple teams” for Fitzpatrick, who is under contract through 2026. Fitzpatrick has appeared in all nine games for the Dolphins this season, totaling 50 tackles, five pass breakups, and one interception, while also recovering one fumble. Fitzpatrick, 28, has been named as a Pro Bowler for each of the last three years and would immediately improve whatever secondary he lands with

This doesn't seem like a bad source.  DM has said he's going to be in on every deal, whether he actually pulls the trigger is the only question.  In the draft he had an offer from the Rams for T-Mac but they did not want to give Dan what he wanted.  The price was definitely in our favor.

I don't see why some many people are getting their panties in wad over the possibility that we trade for a position of need.  Pick up a player that is under contract for next season.  If you give up a 4th or 5th round pick for a starter, that's not giving up draft capital that's building a solid team.  That's addressing a position we don't have to necessarily address in the draft or free agency.

What I find funny is the Bryce haters would rather pick up a QB to replace a QB that has won his last 4 games.  Yeah, I know he doesn't throw deep very often.  That's not our identity.  We want to control the ball and keep those high-powered offenses off the field.  They can't score if they don't have the ball.  If we don't shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties, we actually do a pretty good job of controlling the ball.

Bottom line If there is a player of need and he's on the market.  IMO it's Dan's job to kick the tires on EVERY position we need.

Teams probably make a ton of inquiries.  Doesn't tell us how serious it is.  You want your team doing that.

I feel like we wouldn't have thought we could get what we did for a guy like Mingo.  Started with a call.  Let Dan cook.

That’s fair. But the level of likelihood that this is a possible reality is low until it isn’t. Just checking is not negotiating.

You want a thread every time a rumor gets floated?

Do we have a trade deadline thread?

Don't know if the guy who doesn't follow play calls and just does his own thing would vibe with Evero's defense. If the Steelers locker room was ready to kill him and talking poo about him post game like last year, don't think he'd be the best addition here despite his talent.

This is more concerning than talent.  Our defense can't have rogue players.

Fitz is owed almost $19 million in his final year, 2026. That’s due to the Steelers and Dolphins past restructuring. I think his dead cap hit this offseason is almost $13 million. That’s a lot of cap space used up on a journeyman 29 year old safety.

He's already been traded for a 1st so the value is gonna be lower at older age.

Most recently the Steelers traded him and a 5th for Jalen Ramsey a TE and a 7th.

The issue that I see is the contract situation.  He wants a new deal.  Trading for him without extending him makes it a one year rental.

    • After some of the calls last year probably won't see much of a drop off
    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/48344034/nfl-begin-hiring-replacement-officials-given-state-negotiations-nfl-referees-association   Honestly fug these refs and their union. Resisting changes that would actually incentivize good performance and not seniority based systems. What a bunch of donkeys. Hope the replacements straight up take their jobs and never give them back. Sick of watching refs script games with no repercussions.
    • Donovan seems like highest risk to me. Lloyd and May have already established relationships with all these kids. There’s probably guys hitting the portal that they recruited from HS. And then there’s the possibility of transferring their own guys from their current teams. They’ve also been recruiting the HS kids for like the next 5 years already. Look at the Iowa coach who hit the ground running by transferring all his guys from his D2 program. Or going across sports to Cignetti transferring all his JMU guys year one then building off that to a national title year 2. Donovan is starting from square one having been in the NBA so long and he’s already 60. So you’re potentially punting year 1 for a guy you are just hoping to be a 10 year hire while you figure out how to actually develop your next home grown 20yr guy. That’s 1/10th of the time you have him, more or less at best. The hope would be that he would find some high level assistants who have been working the college recruiting trails already, but then are you giving up his ideal staff just to get a foothold in recruiting and transfers. Think Belichick year one was bad? Imagine how much worse it would be without Steve Belichicks transfer portal pulls. Hoping Mays or Lloyd are all they’re cracked up to be.
