That would be ideal but i doubt he or his agent go for that

I agree, if he wanted to play for like 20-25 i'd go for it but anymore than that would hamstring us too much. You can win with him, not because of him. Need that extra $ for supporting cast. tying 40mil plus on Bryce i fear wouldnt go well.

Gotta sign Icky too. Top LT salaries in the NFL right now at about 28m AAV so you figure he's going to want to be somewhere in that range, plus we just put a 2 year on Moton at 22AAV, Hunt's cap hit of 24M (dead cap of 26m if we cut him), and Lewis at 16.75m (7.5m dead cap if we cut him).

That's a lot of beef in front of Bryce or whoever is at QB. I don't see how we do a big extension and keep Icky. I don't see Bryce's agent letting him play the last year of his rookie contract with no extension or 5th year guarantee.

Would you rather pay him 60 million? I choose the lesser of the two if he's staying another year, which he will. Get ready for Russell Wilson as your new backup. Pray they draft someone to go along with that nightmare in the making.

Are you saying if they pick up his 5th year? That'd be a horrible development. I'd rather cut his ass the second the season ends.

I have a premonition that he's going to be traded to SF for McCorkle after the season.

hes going to make 30 with the 5th if its picked up.  No way he signs a deal that is less then that.  With the rate of contracts if he gets an extension its going to be HUGE and the huddle sans a couple of posters are going to riot

Im saying short of a trade they will pick up his option. Do I want that? No, not as a starter. But it's not what I want that decides the course going forward. Im trying to predict what the team does so I can determine my level of interest next year.

I would be shocked if they signed him to an extension based on the production he's shown so far. My guess is they will let it play out until he makes a stink about a long-term contract and will trade or cut him then. I highly doubt they can find a serious trade partner for him. Probably will be peanuts.

picking up the 5th literally ties him here for 2 more years because its going to cost 30+ for the 5th that they are signing up for.  Any sane franchise would pass.  It just doesnt make any sense especially considering Icky is due and 2 years is an eternity for coaches and front office.

Like I said last night, the clear option to me is to simply tell bryce we are not picking up your 5th, you are playing on your 4th, make us regret it and by the way we are drafting a guy and bringing in another vet.  If you dont like it kick rocks

That's where I see it too unless the last 8 games are miraculous and he leads a deep playoff run on his shoulders. And I still want a serious backup regardless.

Im not sure they will use those exact words but the point will be the same. He will be on the roster 1 more season either way. I just hope they can find a better starter. It shouldn't be that hard.  But looking at the available vets it just might be. They've painted themselves into a corner with the qb position.

or…..you just move on from him.  You don’t get the team deeper into an already clear mistake. Which a lot of teams have recently done with QBs that don’t have it.

i don't agree with that. they'll make the decision immediately after the season ends so bryce's can either request a release or find a team that wants to trade for him.

League year starts march 11th, deadline for 5th year option will be may 1st.

there is no way they're going to pick up another year of this after the historically bad poo he's putting out on the field. Bryce might be beta enough that he chooses to play out the 4th year without any guarantees but even then they have to bring in someone to challenge him/beat him in camp.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
