Its more of a team stat like wins and losses. The way they define it doesn't truly isolate the qb's contribution.

It is definitely imperfect. The spirit of it we instinctively know, but then the legalese around the gate keeping just mucks it up. And it doesn’t represent that ideal any more.

My definition is that you have to score to win the game on the last possession. Your last possession. If the other team gets 1 last possession after your defense has to hold that lead on the opponents last possession to win the game.

Good way to frame it. 
Like I said somewhere, I approached it as a cheap way to pimp Bryce when I learned that the Giants win last year fit the criteria. 
Then I started looking at it and it is just, it has problems.

It also says it considers a possession starting in the 3rd that leads to a score in the 4th quarter. That's way too broad. It should be determined by each teams last possession. Nothing more.

Yeah. I always thought that ‘Brett Favre had 7 GWD in his MVP season’ or whatever, meant what you are saying. But it apparently  never meant that.

I don't think that's unfair. It is still in the 4th quarter. 

It's not really supposed to be the sort of definitive stat that people are making it out to be. Just a general measure of a player leading their team to victory in that final quarter and how often that happened.

I feel like most of his are going to fall under this category.  I feel like it was just a couple weeks ago they mentioned Bryce only kneeling in the victory formation a couple times his career.  Mostly due to the poor record, but also due to most of his wins being on GWDs.

I think you are comparing a comeback win versus a game winning drive. If you are down in the 1st half until you score on 1 drive that wins you a 7-3 game how do you decide if that's a comeback win or a game winning drive? Is it both? You stat nerds give me a headache. I need a beer.

Grasping at what straws? Yesterday Bryce got credit for the comeback but how much of that was really Bryce? If we're being honest, he threw a 5 yard pass that Tremble took and obliterated the Atlanta defense with, followed up by handoffs to Dowdle to set up the game winning field goal. Was that Bryce willing the team to victory making play after play, or was he the QB that threw the pass to another player who made an amazing effort that put the team in position to win? 

I hate the term GWD because it's rarely a QB actually putting the whole offense on his back and leading a team down the field with pinpoint pass after pass. So let's be realistic and give Young his credit where it's due. In how many of those games where he had a GWD, do you feel he was playing well enough the entire game that you would feel 100% confident he could lead the team from the 20 80 yards down field in under 2 minutes to score a touchdown? Yesterday might be the only one I could say that about. That's not being a hater. That's just what I've seen watching him play.
