I think we are in a tough spot.  I think the option year will be based on these final 4 games.  We're about .500 late in the season.  

Two things that need to happen.  Canales needs to have a solid game plan going into these last 4 games. Bryce needs to be consistent in every game gone down the stretch.

I am so confused that I am not going to jump on the Bryce bandwagon but I am also not giving up hope. I just wish he would be consistent and win the games we are supposed to win.

Hunt is a beast and I’m pumped for him to return, Bryce also had him last year. Don’t get me wrong I’m excited for this team, I just think picking up his fifth year would be a disaster.

If he continues to have games like today they will pick up his option. I don't agree with it, but I can see it coming. My only hope is they have a plan B for when this inevitably blows up in their face.

We beat the best team in the NFC without 6 defensive starters. I'm on board with Canales. Bryce can come back but I want us to take a middle round QB to keep him on his heels.

Pick up the option and bring some viable talent in to compete at the position. Bryce has to prove he can put it all together and not be so streaky. At the same time, we can bring in a vet backup with the potential to push him. One more year with Canales and this offense might still make a difference at this point.  Ultimately I think his size disadvantage shows. He still takes too many sacks.
 

Let him play out his contract, and consider what it would take to retain him. Bryce will have to know that it’s either time to get paid or time to accept a role as career back-up elsewhere.

Honestly the next 4 games should be the deciding factor.

panthers are in a position to finish strong and lock up the south. It’s been a long time since that was even fathomable. But,Bryce and the team in general, have to be more consistent.

If we continue the hot/cold trend to finish the season we’ll be out of the playoffs.

fact remains, you are still claiming it’s a certainty…..the worst starting QB in the NFL since 2023 with middle school physical levels tools is a guaranteed 5th year pick pickup…..just because.  

Not to mention the very high odds bad Bryce shows up majority of the rest of the games and they can’t win in spite of him down the stretch (as we don’t get anomaly performances from those around Bryce, which is basically what has to happen in our wins minus Atlanta.  That well probably is as close to maxed out as it can get this season. 

What's "certainty"  is that none of our opinions matter. 

For anything to change, Bryce would likely have to sh-t the bed in every remaining game.

But the only confident prediction I can make regarding next year's backup is that it won't be Andy Dalton.

Bryce has been protected from competition unlike any other QB in the NFL, probably ever. We've consciously hurt our team to keep any other QB who might play better away from this team. Andy Dalton and Jack Plummer were not the 2 best QBs available for camp this summer. Id argue they weren't in the top 60.

My biggest factor when it comes to Canales is that he genuinely seems to learn from his mistakes and has shown real, visible improvement and growth.

That's not always true in professional coaches.
