They have put in half the draft capital in building the defense compared to the offense

And they still brought in people to fit his D. Im talking about the quality of what they brought in and not why there aren't more DBs and Horns. His guys have been not good IMO. Jackson was a DM guy too.

Evero has his problems, but it's really hard to scheme an effective defense when the pass rush is usually nonexistent (outside of DB beating a double team and getting pressure). Factor in linebackers that can't cover anything and it makes it hard to call any play that isn't zone.

Whether we keep Evero or move on, this defense is severely lacking talent at many positions

Evero has his faults, but even in that loss, the team only gave up 20 points.

Your post gets to the heart of the matter. We are not a talented team on defense at this time. Some of our younger guys may develop w/more playing time, but for now we have no impact players at LB or EDGE. We could really use a ball-hawking S on the back end as well.

We have exactly two players that have to be accounted for on every play, D. Brown, and J.Horn. Mike Jackson has been solid. The other starters would probably be backups on most the upper echelon NFL teams. We really can't expect this team to a Top 10 defense with such a lack of talent. All things considered I've been somewhat impressed with how much better they have played this year.   https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-points-per-game

We are in the top 15 in terms of points allowed per game (22.6) and top 12 in defensive passer rating (88.9). And, we are doing this without a formidable PASS RUSH.

Even our rushing defense has improved. We are #16 in rushing yards allowed per game (116) compared to 179 per game last season. https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/opponent-rushing-yards-per-game

I wouldn't cry if Evero moved on after the season, but his defense isn't the biggest worry for our team.

“only” due to the time of possession of a lot of their drives

And I think the fact this defense can’t stop a nose bleed plays a role in Canales struggling to find a balance between controlling the clock and passing some games

The Seahawks were down 16 in the 4th, came back and won yesterday and they punted twice in the 4th. We absolutely do not have that luxury. This team lacks so much talent across the roster

Evero is a very mixed bag. His scheme is capable of hiding some personnel deficiencies while dramatically amplifying others.

The one thing I will fully admit is that we can actually do far worse than Evero, although I would like to make a change there.

My personal expectation would be that we would immediately make a very bad DC hire when/if he leaves. I don't believe that Canales/Tepper will be able to get a high caliber coordinator to be interested for several reasons. Not the least of which being this defense is constructed very, very poorly(for which Evero deserves at least some of the blame). One thing that seems to be a small positive is that DC does appear to let Evero basically completely run that defense without a ton of input. So that level of autonomy might be attractive to a few candidates.
