There's enough mystery there as to has the coaching been holding him back or has it been his physical portion.

There's going to be a coach or GM out there that's going to look at Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, look at the Panthers organization, and think Bryce might be worth a flyer if there's a two year inexpensive tryout period. 

Maybe the Vikings, Dolphins or even Pittsburgh. Might even be a hail Mary attempt from Phoenix.

And maybe we do it and stick with him after a really strong showing in the playoffs, if we get there. 

The biggest problem is that Bryce has had some pretty good performances, just enough to make a front office wonder, but we've also had some really dud coaching games, too. So is Bryce the problem or is it our coaching and game planning. 

Hell, we don't even know, so other teams probably are looking at it and seeing that while the odds aren't good, there's a heck of a payoff if they are right.

 

I wish I thought the team was full of sharks, that would operate this way.

 

Man as far as blaming coaching… you can hire a great chef but if all he has is dog food for his ingredients, you are gonna get dog food.

For better or worse the FO is picking up the option. I think there are some people here who overestimate Dan Morgan and particularly ignore how invested he is in Bryce Young succeeding. He has expressed this multiple times.

It’s unlikely but I wouldn’t say not possible. The most likely move is we do what the titans did in 2018 with Mariotta and Tannehill but I’d prefer we didn’t and go with a 2nd year guy into 2027

If you are planning on moving on or even hedging your bet, that isn't a situation you pick up a 5th year option. The 5th year option is basically a cheap(usually) precursor to signing a guy that is gonna get a big contract. Well that is for sure not Bryce Young.

His UFA value would probably be in the neighborhood of $3-10 mil on a one year deal.

I'd seriously call the Ravens and see if the rumor is true

So instead of drafting a player to compete next season at another position we draft a player to start in the fifth year of Bryce contract we just picked up.

I’m enjoying watching some of the other players progress but not sure I can stomach watching next season if I know Bryce is going to be apart of the team for 2 more years. This is insanity. The O-line is good enough to support a new rookie QB right now. Cut your losses and try ANYONE else. He’s so fuging limited.

It is just speculation. That said, it is crucial to recognize how these things get done and how business is conducted in the league. Picking up the 5th year is not so much an outlier contract year. Once that is done, it's not really realistic to think they are going to sign Young to an extension that would be in the ballpark of that 5th year. That is why if a team and player are not a good long-term fit, they tend part ways before that 5th year.
