Canales' O - Year 2

It's almost like a 5'8" midget with a wet noodle for an arm at QB is a liability for an offense.  It's absolutely ridiculous that people are trying to judge the offense's performance with this bum.  I've said it before and I'll say it again... all we have done is surround Bryce Young with some of the greatest QB developers the game has ever seen, and none of them can fix him, because there's nothing to fix.  He simply doesn't have the talent to play at the professional level.

I won't blame him much for the lack of pass game, but it is frustrating how easy it is to get him to stop running the ball.

For example, last week, how did Dowdle and Hubbard finish with 7 and 5 rush attempts respectively?  That is simply unacceptable in a game where the Bucs only scored 16 points.

And a flea flicker in the redzone?  Damn near unforgiveable.  And the fact he defended the call after the fact alarms the hell out of me.

Its so weird to me that people dont understand that we are over achieving as far as overall roster talent goes.

I will never understand how the people who every post they make bash Bryce Young also want to bash Canales.  If Bryce doesnt deserve to be in the league then the coach deserves crazy for producing a basically 500 team and making the playoffs.  Or vice versa, but blindly hating both at all times is a weird take.

we 10000% are overachieving this season.   No doubt about that.  Something to keep in mind if that first place schedule actually holds up to be a tougher one.   Ball has bounced our way despite every game day thread being the NFL IS RIGGED AGAINST US rhetoric.

You can take a 6ish win team and have the ball go your way and get 8 or against you and finish with 4.   It's all a range the same caliber team can find itself in.

the board doesn't really contain a heavy % of folks that are very critical of Canales AND Bryce to the same degree.

you got a lot folks (often those very critical of Byrce)that think Canales is largely making lemonade out of lemons the best he can.   I mean, Canales is a very green HC and playcaller so he is going to get some basic criticism all young folks get as they learn.

God forbid we interview mike macdonald or Mike Vrabel

I truly think we *had* to hire a Canales. Nobody except a nobody wanted this job after the way things unfolded since Tepper took over.

I'd have offered Vrabel a blank check and said congrats, you'll stay the highest paid coach in NFL every year. But I still don't think he would've taken it with the stank we had/have on this franchise.

While I do agree with most of this, and that Canales got the job because he said yes and that he would work to turn Young around, it wasn't a case of him being the absolutely only 1 for the job.

Jim Harbaugh supposedly reached out about the job opening but it never went anywhere. Everyone can speculate why, but it certainly might have been a little bit about keeping Young in place.

I think the speculation has traction. Harbaugh would have wanted to evaluate Young and bring in a QB if he felt Young wasn't the guy. With the way Bryce has been shielded from any real adversity in the QB room the past 2 years, it's pretty obvious he's been protected, handed the starting role, whatever you want to call it. Dalton was obviously washed up after last year, but we signed him to a 2 year contract. Head scratcher #1. Plummer was so bad in camp last year many of us were throwing fits about why he even had a number but he was brought back again as our #3. Head scratcher #2. Neither one makes any sense unless Bryce being "the guy" was part of the HC job requirements.

True, Harbaugh would've been awesome if those reports are true. But, Tepper.

Not sure who you are talking to. Everybody maybe? Anyhow the family cat woke me up so….

Saturday, I will be in the playoff frame of mind for that game don’t worry about that. Will be living and dying on each play. Pretty sure everyone will be. That is still a few days away though.

Right now it is yes we made the playoffs. Backed into it with some convoluted 3 way tie breaking magic. It took a heroic finish - not by us, but by Atlanta. I don’t hardly know how to feel about it. I don’t feel like we won it. It is just sort of, well okay here we are, somehow. Our number came up. We were lucky. And that is what we were. Not good, lucky.

As far as here, this discussion, I think people rightly feel like, look at the offense. And it is kind of, what offense? They shut our run down and we become totally stagnant. Some people have faith that the QB can beat people with his arm but we aren’t doing it.

We went into our bye off a big high. In or tied for, first place. We control our destiny. 4 games to do it. And we freaking finished 1-3. That control our destiny thing? We didn’t control poo when it comes down to it. Lost in the mix is basically a huge collapse. No one really called it out, it got lost in the excitement of the chase. But, 1-3 with the playoffs on the line - every week. Not inspiring. I mean, you don’t call that trending up, and if we hadn’t lucked into the tournament that would be our finish headed into the offseason. Not what you want. And if we don’t win Saturday? 1-4 to finish the year.  Limping out.

Okay that said I do hate going into playoffs on a winning streak because you are almost due to end the streak and that loss ends your season, so dropping One before the elimination games start is almost a comfort. But 1-3 with a 54 yard passing total in one of them? Followed by 14 points in a must win. Hmmm.

I am supposed to be optimistic? Sorry I don’t think I can be. I can hope, that’s different. It has just been a rough 8 years, and the excitement of having a winning record is in the rear view this week. About the only way we can have one is make the NFCCG I think.

Anyhow, on offense, where are the signs that we can beat people who stymie our run game? I suppose it could happen out of the blue but we haven’t really been able to pull that off.

Beating Tampa Bay was good. That was it though. Our other last little bit of glory is two plays on 4th down where they didn’t really pay attention in the back end, somehow, and we got two really nice results.  Not once, but twice back to back. Honestly it was so out of character it felt a little fluky.

And here we are, depending on that to happen Saturday. At least I guess is what we are hoping for. Good luck to us.

Bro, y’all are never optimistic. There was never a time of unicorns and rainbows. This fanbase hasn’t been happy in ten years. This entire board is the saddest place in the whole Panthers universe.

But come Sunday? Everybody is 0–0.

Whatever happened two weeks ago in Seattle is over. It’s any given Sunday. You’ve got a shot.

We already beat them once. We’re playing with house money. You choose not to be optimistic.

Tell me something I don’t know. I said right there in what you quoted I wasn’t optimistic. I said I could still be hopeful. Which ain’t the same but will have to do.
I have optimism regarding more compartmentalization aspects of the team. Some players. The good draft we had is cause for optimism. Maybe that Tepper is actually being less harmful. Maybe.
I had some for Canales but his meter is about 50% right now with me.
Etc

    • Do you see the vision?  As of now our Carolina Panthers don’t have an identity. We are not an offensive powerhouse and on defense we only started getting it together towards the end of the year last year. In my opinion we are much closer to having an incredible defense that scares the daylights out of people. I say the answer is simple and we fully commit to that possible identity.    Emmanuel McNeil Warren (E man)  This guy is like a shark lurking around ready to attack anyone. Fearless. He is easily a top 20 talent in my eyes, and the only reason he isn’t more talked about is because he’s from Toledo. Do your due diligence as panther fans and watch his tape I beg you. Once you’re done watching let me ask you this, if you dropped E - Man into the strong safety spot on the Buckeyes, he isn’t being talked about as one of the best prospects we’ve seen in some time given the skill set you see with this guy? I think so. Put his name on the card and turn it in at 19.    Jacob Rodriguez  High effort, High energy, High IQ guy that flies around the field. We all know Jacob at this point. My only concern is he’s a little bit too good and I’m not sure he makes it to us at our pick in the second. With the additions of Jacob and E- Man I think our defense goes to top 5 in the league. We would have a duo of linebackers that rival anything we’ve had in our past. I’m not a GM so I don’t know what the possible answer could be, but if there’s a way we can comfortably trade up in the second to secure this guy I think we find a way to do it.    Spend the rest of our picks fixing the O - line.    Thoughts Panthers fans? Who’s the ideal duo for yall?
    • OL is arguably much more important to the success of a young QB. (Or any QB)
    • Didn’t get around to watching this one but looks like Pistons played their starters and actually tried…? Unlucky that they sit vs Magic, etc and try vs us. Hopefully we can beat the Heat and then Magic or 6ers with no Embiid. BUT if not, the NBA really should give us the lottery win this year like they did Mavs last year. Another high pick could be our final missing piece and have us as legit top contenders next year and going forward if we’re healthy. Or trade it for a Giannis type
