Mock draft LT at 19

Recommended Posts

I like OT Lomu as a prospect if he's still there.  He's young and needs bulking and seasoning, definitely a project year 1 and why we need to re-sign Yosh and/or other LT.  If Ickey is done or he comes back less than his prior self, we can move him to RT or guard.  We got to have a plan in place.

If nothing styles please trade out

Nah, there should be a guy there at #19 we need.  One of the edge guys, Conception, one of the CBs and possibly an OT.  It would be rotten luck if Styles, Delane, Lomu, Conception and Howell are all gone.  If Styles is gone, while not my favorite, Allen certainly will be.  They are neck and neck for OLB2.

There is a https://www.pff.com/draft/big-board?season=2026 which is pretty intersting because they have a consensus of all the mocks. If you believe its accurate we are probably looking at:

LB

Round 1 pick 19: Sonny Styles OSU (16), CJ Allen UGA (28).

Round 1 trade back: Anthony Hill Texas (34)

Round 2 pick 51: Jake Golday Cincy (63), Joshua Trotter Mizzou (76), Deonte Lawson Bama (79)

OT

Round 1 pick 19: Kadyn Proctor Bama (19), Caleb Lomu Utah (24)

Round 1 trade back: Gennings Dunker Iowa (36), Monroe Freeling UGA (37)

Round 2 pick 51: Caleb Tiernan NW (55), Blake Miller Clemson (58).

As someone else mentioned, Styles or trade back.

We should have a short term and long term option at LT/RT. Yosh isn't capable of being average in a season long swath, he will get destroyed(which he did frequently this season).

I say we draft a potential Ikey and/or Moton replacement and then sign a veteran LT option to fill in for a short stint. The veteran option could be dicey. We need someone actually better than Nijman which isn't going to be an easy ask.

BC cannot be involved in the plan because if Mays gets injured for any reason, we have zero players capable of playing center on the roster. That only works if we also re-sign Corbett, which I am a fan of making that move, provided the price is correct....which is as a backup IOL. Also, expecting BC to suddenly be back to 100% in the middle or end of the season is also unwise, IMO.

I think most are going to realize what they did with BC last year, this theoretical free agent market for him is small to nonexistent. I don't think resigning him will be expensive or difficult and we should do so.....as a backup.

I would personally try very hard to get Linderbaum and/or draft a center. Preferably with the ability to be a backup guard.

I like Mays, as a backup. I do not like him as a starter. I like him more than Corbett as a starter but Corbett as a center was always insanely stupid.

Serious question:  Who was the backup center when Mays was C and Corbett and BC were out (I think both were out in September-October.)  That might give some indication of how they approach the C position depth.  (DId they bring Corbett back when BC went down?)

I would follow up an LT pick in the 1st with Jake Slaughter in the 2nd.  LT and a C for the future

So the defense is a second thought again?. You can get a guard later in the draft. Left tackle higher in the draft. They need a inside Linebacker and a edge rusher.....top priorities.

It was a PS player, Nick Samac.

I think we can all agree that ain't any sort of plan for a backup.

Eh. Really have to wait until the combine to start seeing a little clarity on things. I know I saw 1 the other day that had us taking Woods at 19, which I don't see him lasting til 19, and if he was there I would be surprised if that was the pick for a few reasons.

I don't wait until the Combine for several reasons, a) little/no prior familiarity with the players  b) workout warriors skew the conversation c) More players are limiting or opting out of Combine activities  all together which leaves d) people defaulting to RAS.

I understand. I think what I might be saying a little bit more of is clarity as to how the prospects may be lining up and what teams are interested in who and so forth.
