Sean McDermott Fired

McDermott is only 51 years old. Steelers could get 15 years out of him pretty easy. And I promise he is better at his job than he was 5 years ago.  You don’t stop learning.
I actually think he would be a great fit for Pittsburgh, they have a lot of defensive coaches on their hot list.

There's never been a HC/QB combo that's went to a Super Bowl and it wasn't within first 5 years.

Only 2 teams had Super Bowl hopes this season that were outside that window.

Buffalo: McDermott and Allen

Baltimore: Harbaugh and Jackson

Both coaches after failing a Super Bowl run were fired at the end of the season.

If memory serves, Andy Reid went to the Superbowl in his sixth season as a head coach.  And Donovan Mcnabb was in his sixth season as well.

That being said, I think that is more because the vast majority of coaches don't last more than five years unless they win a superbowl.

For that matter, the vast majority of NFL don't make it much past 3 years.

Man they REALLY hate Beane.

The super fans I seen have been on his nuts since he drafted Josh Allen. Allen has covered up many probLems and done the most carrying on any roster. Beanie drafts have gotten worse each year and hes made terrible team killer FA moves ala Diggs and cutting him with like 50 million in dead cap. Yes injuries hit, but fans wanted Beanie to sign/draft more WRs and he didn't. Then they had terrible WRs along with injuries, thus bu-bye the best chance at SB in a down NFC year.

No one is perfect and having a elite QB covers up many issues. Its 10x harder drafting 26, 55, 83 ala late each round. Its truly a different game, just think if he didn't trade for Diggs and like the Viking did draft JJ. I think they already have one SB and they would be going this year too/heavy fav.

You're correct Andy and Donovan did go their 6th season together, they seem to be the exception but even so they were knocking on the Superbowl in 3 consecutive NFC championship games prior to 2004 so early success is still the norm for a HC/QB combo McDermott and Harbaugh were going against the odds this season

Still Andy got rid of Donovan

And philly got rid of Andy.

Ravens and Steelers never had much TO in 25 years, but they are looking for HCs.

Its crazy but if its going to happen; 5 year is a great timeline.

1st round QBs have 5 year deals with the option, thats the main problem is having a QB AND HC last 5 years together.

The turnover is insane, I don't get how players are going to learn a new system every 1-2 years, but HC like Mcvay get it done. The tech with watching film and being able to relate to the 25 year old player is keys to SB wins.

Only adds credence to my belief that the moment you pay any QB the big bucks, you have maybe one or two more years of a real shot at a SB before that window all but closes. The QB and the coach can only do so much to overcome the reality that a QB eats up too much cap space and you can't keep great talent around them. You have to replace them via the draft and if you don't nail that, you're screwed.

Pittsburgh would be perfect for him. I just think they will go young/first time HC like before. I think McDermott goes to Baltimore or he just sits out a season. I just don’t know what the dynamic will be with Lamar.

I think next year there is a good chance: Dallas, Washington, Tampa, NYJ, Indy will be the openings and probably one more surprise. I could see him in Dallas to “fix the defense” after it struggles again this year.

I’ll add that I think Buffalo will hit a slump following this. It looks like McDermott was really liked in the locker room. His last words at the press conference was “I’m standing up for Buffalo damnit” and then he got fired. Bring a guy in who finishes 7-10, that locker room will start splintering.

I looked it up, Tomlin was not promoted from within. 1 season as Minnesota DC. They hired him from there.

I was thinking he was internally promoted. So I guess maybe no real need to look at who is young inside their org but that’s where I was headed.

I think Shula, Minter, and even Evero have a decent shot.

Could see McCarthy as an odd ball pick even though he doesn’t fit the mold. He’s from Pittsburgh and grew up a Steelers fan. Would make things interesting if Rodgers came back.

So what you're saying is it would be insanity to extend BY
