I have come up with something I call the McVay test.

Take your QB, and trade him to McVay. You're now facing your former QB in a McVay led offense for a trip to the Super Bowl. Are you scared of that QB and what he can do l?

If you are, hang on to the QB. If you're not, move on.

I...I think I'd not want to face a McVay led Bryce. My answer would have been very very different a month ago.

Maybe in a one off, but given over tike as you gather film of him in the system you'll figure it out. Bruce is just such a physical limitation of offense that creativity can only carry you so far.

Hit him in stride

Darnold being able to sit for a year under Shannahan at San Fran completely revitalized his career IMO. Then having that great year under another offensive mastermind in Kevin O'Connel in Minnesota helped him build up enough confidence to evolve  his game to where he is now.

Also having better weapons helped him a lot. He had Justin Jefferson last year and now he has Njiba, Kupp, Shaheed, and Kenneth Walker.

supporting cast players and coaching helps a lot.

Sam always had a ton of talent.  He was a kid that got drafted by the Jets and passed to the Rhule Panthers.

    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
