Panthers HC Dave Canales hints at adding more weapons for QB Bryce Young

If Bryce is going to thrive, the #Panthers need to build the offense around what he does well

You can only build around a passer that has the prerequisite physical talent to keep defenses honest at all levels. You can work around spotty accuracy you can work around spotty decision making.

But you cannot work around lack of physical tools that results in the job of the defense being made easier by default on any given snap. We have not been able to do that and will not be able to do that no matter how many weapons we add.

Furthermore regardless if the blueprint for the success of your fourth year #1 pick is to expect everyone else to do the lifting guess what? You need a QB.

Our starting oline looks good on paper.  Even that is a bit of a reach given the additions, age and injuries.  Problem is when someone inevitably goes down we are going to relying on some dude named Stone to step in.   The Icky injury and the timing of it really mess up the overall plan for this team.  I like walker but only as a stop gap and hopefully he returns to prior form.  We just are a team with no depth anywhere.  Its kindof wild when you think about it

I doubt we are done.  I think BC comes back pretty cheap if he clears medical and I think we draft a OT and a C for depth to future starters.

I mean, do you stop trying to improve your skill positions when it's obvious that you need to improve them? There really is more than one way to skin a cat, it's just that one way is better than the other when you look at it in a historical and statistical context.

That's why we drafted an LT, paid for starting level  OGs and depth, and also got what most are calling an excellent deal on a starting caliber LT this year.

Three of those guys are 1 year rentals, and yes I'm including TMo.  He's only going to be guaranteed as starter this coming season and that's if he holds up another season. We have no depth to speak of to boot. I think they need to start considering the future of the offensive line and grab great talent from the draft when it presents itself. They cannot afford to pass on olinemen when these guys are sitting there at our pick again.

I do to (at least I'd like to), I just don't know if we need to do it with our first round draft capital. If they do, I'll be good with it, as I expect them to stick to their board.

Since we won't have to rush either of them out I think you can draft both OL in the mid rounds, especially the center if not later rounds.

Phillips and Lloyd are "first round" contributors (like that makes all the difference).

I'm not arguing anything except that it's not a recipe for success to draft based upon need. To me, and it's just my opinion, I don't know why someone would argue against any first rounder as long as they bring the value because that's actually what we should be looking for. To me, to go into a draft saying that we're going to draft an inferior player at a certain position and skip the player that is superior simply because it would be three times in a row is just silly considering that you still need to shore up the position.

I am trying to remember when I EVER said reach for need. My thing if someone falls you jump, if you can trade back a few slots and get help at the right value and pick up some ammo to move up from 51 which I think is outside the money zone, then you do that.
Take a WR later. Plenty of capable WRs have come from the 3rd round. Though this year I would go for C there if there was a reasonable choice.

Take a TE if you must. I see more reason to take WR than TE. I think you give guys drafted two years ago and last year a chance to develop before cancelling them.

I think it is kind of unrealistic to throw everything all in on offense in hopes of going deep in the playoffs after an 8-10 year, even if it did have some nice bright spots in it.

And outside of this argument but relevant to it, I am bothered by Canales and Morgan and their apparent posture that we have arrived and are now in the big boy club. I don’t know where that comes from. They are out there talking like they are winners at 8-10. Backing into the playoffs in a real convoluted tie breaker scenario. They had some good games, yes. But the big feather n the cap, the LA Rams matchups, did you see what the Rams did? They didn’t fire the coaches but they fired their defensive backs. Bryce beat them yes, and it was pretty, but it was kind of like the Bucs and Mike Evans picking on our decimated secondary in 2022. Someone (Wilks) went down for allowing that to happen and they went down in LA too.
Wr aren’t as good as a whole lot of homers think we are. Shore up the trenches.

I think too many fans buy into it because they are so starved for anything that looks like a winner.
