The Bucs collapsed due to huge injuries and the saints were turning it around, just ran out of time. We backed into playoffs losing the two huge games to end the season. To me, waiting to see how he does this season and then discuss contract extension is the smart move. Putting this out in the atmosphere now seems misguided.

Oh yeah.  And the only way we got in was a sort of miraculous Atlanta streak and their making it a three way tie.  Because we had lost the tiebreaker with TB and were out otherwise.

All those must win games which we couldn’t win, there should be a harsher term than ‘backed in’ to describe our accomplishment.

idk it's just so hard for me  to take this GM serious about winning if he really  thinks Bryce Young is the future at Qb ...just saying

I guess you could ta’k the perspective of, if he can make a roster that wins with Bryce Young at QB, he is a genius.

Morgan "your going to have to go earn your role unless you are Bryce Young"

Basically. Their blind spot for this guy is amazing.

They've upgraded every room in the building except the QB room.

Perhaps the Sea Birds and Sam winning the Super Bowl has convinced Tepper that Bryce was the right choice, “We just have to give him more time.”

Sam Darnold & Bryce Young are two very different Qbs ..just saying

the last 25 years approximately 2/3 of ALL  first round Qb's  in the NFL were or are bust.so for everyone who makes it like a Sam Darnold you have two that don't make it or are a bust

Another thread where the Huddle melts down over a Bryce comment.

"Conversations" and "Bryce Young has been signed to a new long-term contract" are still far away from being the gospel.

For a fanbase that has watched two top-3 drafted QBs come here, and us move on, only to see them elevate their play elsewhere, I find it comical. Bryce is flawed but this org is damned if you do and damned if you don't with BY9.

Why would our GM and HC say anything other than supportive about their QB1.

Yes, he's extended, but I truly do not think if he goes out and has a repeat of the previous seasons, that he is here beyond 2027. They're giving him every opportunity and surrounding him with a ridiculous amount of assets on both sides of the ball. If he continues to pitch 110 yd/ game and cough up the ball while everyone else is busting their ass, no way Dan keeps him beyond the extension.

This. No GM is gonna come outright and be like “if our QB doesn’t improve we’re moving on next year”

even if that’s the plan, you still say all the things DM has said

I think we move on after this year barring some huge jump in improvement, but the hate boner here for Bryce really is wild lol.

Took 3 pages to find the first intelligent post on this thread. We weren’t finding the future at pick 19 and if we trade up big in the draft we repeat 2023 mistake just to go get Ty Simpson. We aren’t going to move off a guy we have cheap for 2 more years and gave up the farm for to go get whatever journeyman Minshew type is out there to maybe win 2 more games (maybe lose 2 more) than we would with Bryce. FO seems to have a plan, speak the coach speak and play the hand you’re dealt while building a strong roster for the future. These guys didn’t engineer the Bryce trade, if he still looks the same as his first 3 years we will be QB shopping in 27 or 28. That is the most likely scenario.

For sure, but him saying "we believe in Bryce and know he is our future" is where I am veering off course.  He doesnt have to say that

    • Bryce has improved each season, fwiw, statistically.  His slope is rising.  (Not to say I am high on him--I am not, but I have not given up on him--nor have I given up on XL, but damn he pisses me off)  CJ's slope is descending.   I was never a Penix fan.  Never, I say!
    • That is definitely the down side of all this--on paper, I would offer up a second rounder for him if he passed my interviews.  He has already gone through (seriously?) a treatment program for gambling addiction.  I just see him as a first round talent that we could get with a second rounder.  If I liked Bryce and felt good about paying him $50m per, I would not touch Sorsby.  If Bryce regresses or stays the same--he is going to expect to be paid.  Sorsby, in my view, has a better long-term future as an NFL QB.  He is big, mobile, has good arm strength, and makes wise decisions (on the field) with the football.  He is a great dual threat, RPO QB.   I think he is a perfect solution for the backup qb position and insurance for Bryce should he get injured or suck.  Pickett?  King?  yikes.
    • Hard to say--they are very unpredictable--this article came out last night---after our comments:  (ESPN)   How has the NFL approached NCAA players with gambling violations in the past? David Purdum, sports betting reporter: Quarterback Hunter Dekkers and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte were found to have committed gambling violations while playing college football, and both were allowed to pursue NFL careers. Dekkers was the projected starting quarterback at Iowa State but was ruled ineligible ahead of the 2023 season after an investigation found he had bet on at least one game involving the Cyclones (among other wagers that violated NCAA bylaws). The bet was just $15 on Iowa State to beat Oklahoma State in a 2021 game in which he did not play, but it led to the end of his Division I career. He played one season at Iowa Western Community College in 2024 before signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, and he spent last season on the practice squad. Boutte was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in January 2024 on charges of underage betting while at LSU. The arrest came roughly eight months after he had been drafted in Round 6 by the Patriots, and the charges were ultimately dropped. According to police, Boutte placed more than 8,900 wagers from April 2022 to May 2023, including betting on at least 17 college football games -- at least six of which involved LSU during that span. The NFL did not discipline Boutte.
