Joe Person: Panthers are NOT expected to extend Bryce Young before the 2026 season

What job in America do you get rewarded with all-time historical money for below mediocre performance?

NFL QB

I don't think he gets Dak money. I think he comes in under Lawrence at 55, but in that ballpark. 45-50 if I had to guess. It will not be some low-ball, prove it type deal. He's a former #1 overall and made the playoffs.

We are not in a great situation with him

Kyler Murray and Tua both signed 1-year $1mil deals to be backuos.  Think about how bass-ackwards this is.

To be fair they've both made over $100m in their careers (Murray - $170m, Tua - $124m) so they're extreme cases.

I suspect neither wanted to come here with absolutely no chance to unseat Young.

Yeah and how does that relate to extending Bryce?

Panthers can’t make the same mistake.  That’s the point. No way we pay this kid like Patrick Mahomes.  This is honestly laughable.

There's more to it than just that. Murray not only has an opportunity to take that job, but he also has a coach now that is widely-regarded as a QB-friendly coach.

Tua no longer has to play outdoors in Buffalo, New England and New Jersey, and instead now has Tampa, and indoors in New Orleans, an indoor venue for home, and a real shot at winning that job as well.

I think the hard-headed steadfastness to not bring in any real competition for Young, or have anyone in the developmental pipeline, has boxed us in a bit on what will ultimately happen.

We do have Superbowl-winning QB Kenny Pick-it waiting in the wings, so I guess that is something if it becomes a break glass emergency.

Yes we are, we have him under contract for two seasons, need to draft a guy next off season.

In no world do you extend Bryce Young.

Hopefully Tillis is schooling them on the Alex Smith to Pat Mahomes transition, we are in a good spot to upgrade the QB position after this season.

Bryce’s contract:

‘23:  $7mil

’24:  $8mil

’25: $10mil

’26: $12mil

’27: $26mil 😳😱

And y’all wanna pay him $50mil?  GTFO.

I’ll take Kyler Murray for peanuts over him any day.

I don't want to pay him anything. I want him gone.

Malik Willis is making $22 million a year which is good for 16th in the league.

No way in hell should we pay Bryce Young top 10 QB money unless he is actually walking on water.

Here is the list. Where does the market put him, again as a former #1 overall that has made the playoffs?

Hurts is 10. Just a nudge over 50. Maybe around Mayfield. That puts him at 33per
