NBC Sports 2026 NFL GM rankings

almost every GM in the NFL is aggressively trying to improve their roster each year wether that be trades, the draft, free agency & or re-signing players, coaches etc .

trust me it takes a whole lot more than gradual improvements to your roster each season to actually keep up with your competition & assemble a winning football team in the NFL ...just saying

Sounds about right IMO. Basically, outside of the QB position Dan is making overall solid moves but QB in the linchpin.

Their use of the phrase questionable QB situation fits perfectly. He is stuck, for the moment at least, in a situation with Bryce that he can't really get out of. There have been improvements for Young, but he hasn't been a world changer. He had horrible coaching first year and was saddled with a broken down remnant of what had been an afterthought team anyway. There's one year left to keep him on the cheap with the idea that if he cranks out a great season, we've got first dibs on him for the next. If he tanks out, then off to free agency Young goes to either a QB whisperer-type situation or becomes a fairly battle tested back up QB. And we get something to add into our compensatory picks formulation.

This is a make or break year for Young, but not for Morgan or Canales.

He's here for $25m the year after next - that's not cheap.

Should be, but you never know. I think Dan will be safe, but Canales was brought in to fix Bryce

And no one here has inside the room info on exactly what terms Canales was given.
My thing is, Bryce was so unfixable that to hold Anyone, not specifically Canales, to a fix him or bust standard is completely unreasonable.
I can’t say that is not the deal. I can’t say I wouldn’t have taken it myself, even believing there was no way he could be made into what Tepper wants him to be.
But no one should be condemned for failing to make that kid into a top 12 QB. It is one the level of turning water into wine.

They mention Dan using 1st round picks on WR's, yet didn't give him a demerit for one of those being a trade up for XL? lol.

Maybe ranking him near the bottom third included demerits? He is one slot from bottom 10 so I guess he might as well be in the bottom third.
What I was seeing is that after a few obvious names the guy seemed to be pretty random as to where he slotted people.

He gave Beane a nice grade. And he just fired a coach that pulled them from the ashes and kept them up high for years. Let’s see how that works out.

also Beane took a WR immediately after Legette that hasn’t been any better. If even as good. I guess he or someone hit on the QB and gets him over. Which, yeah that is a big deal.

Morgan knows that the Bryce contract will define his career--or end it.  Personally, I would not be surprised to see him franchise tagged once.  If Bryce has a "meh" or worse year, I could see him franchise tagged for 2027 and the Panthers could go all in for a QB in the 2027 draft.  To me, I would think that is the plan, unless Bryce continues to improve and has a great year.

Of course you keep your options open as long as you can. If he has a crappy year this year you are still on the hook for 2027
it would make it easier to move on though.
If he does his customary elevate his play by a baby step in 2026 then you have to draft someone. Or bring someone in. Preferably draft.

But you really do not have decide on him until after 2027 is done. You wouldn’t have to franchise him until 2028 and that only if he came close to being that valuable. Like I said elsewhere if he blows up then might be able to still sign him instead of tagging him.

Being nice to Theilen at the end of his career is one thing.  Being nice to a guy you have carried for four years at a big cost to you, is not mandatory.

Thete is no reason I see to make things harder on ourselves at the cost of 36.5 million us what it costs to pay another QB is self defeating.

just saying
