Pat Y on why Shockey wont come here (Steve Smith RIP)

90% of great WRs are attention whores and drama queens, nothing new. Smith doesn't have the ideal character but everyone already knew this and if it's Shockey or smitty well that's just a stupid question. Hell I'd rather have Smittys jock strap than Shockey.

If every competitive spirited offensive player we consider can't be pursued because of Smith let's just get rid of Smith and focus on building the offense into something that can actually get a first down.

I don't believe that Smith at the age he is would really have it out for anybody that can bring a little bit of attitude, though, and I'd expect him to welcome Shockey with open arms if we signed him.

Honestly the only thing that bothers me with Shockey is he always seems to be dealing with a lingering ankle or foot injury almost every single year, but I love his competitive spirit and the fact that his attitude towards other teams reflects that he doesn't like them. He plays with heart and gets offended when someone's trying to prevent him from catching a pass over the middle. We have too many players who look like they just don't really give a poo if they're outplayed on this team

Drew Carter worked out with Steve Smith before 2006 I believe and his play improved. Hands never got better though.

I miss Drew Carter. The kid was always opened down field, if he could ever learn to catch he would be a beast WR. I always wondered what he would turn out like if we had different coaches to develop him.

I don't really miss him. He had potential but his frame was too skinny and the hands never really developed. It was sad he got injured in oakland because Al Davis loved his speed(of course) and he was supposedly lighting it up in TC.

Smith's best (and perhaps only) friend on the team was Kasay. They spent a lot of time together. I found that to be odd.

Its kind of like how a beautiful chick likes to have a fat chick be here best friend. There egos are never threatened or challenged, so they have a comfort level with their opposites. Kasay is a kicker for God sakes, he is the fat chick here. The lowly kicker.

Yea, Yas is a tool. Smitty's the reason young WRs haven't develops? Gimme a break. Jarrett didn't develop because he was a lazy bum. I held out hope for him for 3 years straight, was always sure THIS would be the year. Part of his problem was never getting thrown at. He made catches. But there's no excuse for not knowing the formations or trying hard at practice. If he had been busting his ass at practice like a young player should Smitty wouldn't have had to drop the hammer on him. Smitty has tried to help a few young players develop - Robinson, Carter, Trent Guy. They've all let him down. I'm not saying Smitty is perfect, everyone knows he has a temper and has assaulted two teammates. I'll take his bad with his good though, more than worth the "temper" problems he has once every 4 years.
