GBN Draft Report hints at trade with Bengals

This from today's Great Blue North Draft Report:

Panthers still pondering #1 … Needless to say Carolina, which has the #1 pick at this year’s draft, will have front-row seats at the Auburn workout. The Panthers reportedly are still considering as many as a half players to be selected with the top pick which is an uncommonly large number for this time of year. The buzz out of Carolina, though, is that the Panthers would still like to take a QB with the top pick, but aren’t yet convinced that Auburn’s Newton or Blaine Gabbert of Missouri, the two top-rated QB prospects, are worth the pick. The Panthers, though, may have also cooled somewhat on both Auburn DT Nick Fairley and Clemson DE Da’Quan Bowers as possibilities for the top pick. At the same time, the Panthers may be warming to LSU CB Pat Peterson, off his spectacular combine performance, and North Carolina DE Robert Quinn as potential #1 picks. Meanwhile, Cincinnati will also reportedly be focused on Newton at Tuesday’s work. The Bengals‘ front office continue to say that veteran QB Carson Palmer, who has threatened to retire if he isn’t traded, isn’t going anywhere. The Bengals’ coaching staff, though, appears to be working on the assumption that Palmer won’t be with the team when league play ultimately resumes next fall and are also looking at QBs with the 4th pick. Bengals’ head coach Marvin Lewis, for example, had some nice things to say about the team’s interview with Newton at the combine. Of course, talk about trading Palmer remains purely hypothetical until a new CBA is in place.

Like Palmer or not, it makes sense.

Sounds like a lot of speculation, but I guess at this point it is all speculation. Just another thing to think about.

For the right price I'm open to a trade. Swap places, 12' 1st + 11' 2nd just to talk. Otherwise don't call IMO.

We take Palmer and swap Firsts, draft Dareus or Peterson, fill out DT further in the third.

My worry also. Depends on a price tag. If there is a 1st round pick other than a swap involved abort mission.

Like Palmer or not, it makes sense.

Wow, we are going to take half a player? Upper or lower half?

If we go with the upper half we will have to worry about fumbling as his knee will never be down.

What exactly are the boards for? I see people introducing things that don't interest me and I just don't read it--I sure as heck don't go onto the thread and make a comment that is critical of the thread. That is like going to the mall so you can complain about shopping
