Gabbert scores 42 on the wonderlic

That's pretty damn good... Just goes to show he's smart. Doesn't answer many questions about how he'll do in the NFL, though.

Wonderlic is a general predictor of success at a high level, but it's no guarantee and there are plenty of exceptions. Not worth pinning much on it.

Does he hit the Parcells rule..? maybe like 3 out of 4.

Depends. Some claim there are 7 rules: being a three-year starter, a senior in college, a college graduate, starting 30 games, winning 23 games, having a 2-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio and a completion rate of 60 percent. (Source on 7: KC Joyner, ESPN, http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/draft2011/insider/columns/story?id=6192612 , article on Cam Newton)

Others claim there are 4: 1. He must be a senior, because you need time and maturity to develop into a good professional quarterback.2. He must be a graduate, because you want someone who takes his responsibilities seriously. 3. He must be a three-year starter, because you need to make sure his success wasn’t ephemeral and that he has lived as “the guy” for some period of time. 4. He must have at least 23 wins, because the big passing numbers must come in the context of winning games. (Supposedly taken from Monday Night Football and pasted all over SBNation and elsewhere)

Others use the 26/27/60 rule. 26 wonderlic, 27 college starts, 60% completion. Gabbert is just short on the starts I believe but fits the others.

If Gabbert has a 42 on his Wonderlic, then there's that. He started 26 games in college (winning I think 18), recorded a 60% completion percentage, had a 2.2:1 TD/INT ratio, but is only a junior so he didn't graduate yet. He was a 2 year started... as a freshman he played in a couple games but didn't start. He would have fit all of the Parcells criteria if he had played another year though, guarantee it.

What more does the guy have to do? At this point he has pretty much shown he's the total package. If he was coming out of a pro style offense he would be a no-brainer at the #1 slot. Then again...there were people who thought Bradford would fail too coming from essentially the exact same system. Bradford was also completely out of football for an entire season...

I just want to know why people would take anyone other than Newton over Gabbert? If you would take a DL then you don't understand why we are drafting #1 overall. Our defensive line was not the reason we went 2-14 last year...If you think that it is then you need to learn a little more about the game of football.

As I said, if you want to draft Newton over Gabbert then that is your choice. At least you have your head on straight enough to acknowledge that we need a QB. However, you need to ask yourself if you want a QB where the reason he is so feared is because of his legs. We have seen how that works out for guys like Mike Vick and Donovan McNabb. Not that I wouldn't love to have a dynamic QB but at some point the reason you run is because you can't throw. McNabb and Vick both have notorious inaccuracy problems. Why? Because they spent the first 5-6 years of their careers running around instead of refining their accuracy. Cam Newton is on of the most inaccurate QBs that has ever been projected at #1. Guess what...He isn't going to improve on that inaccuracy by running for a few yards every other time he has the ball in his hand. He will always lean on that..

So personally I'd rather have a guy that knows he can't lean on his legs every time he needs to pick up yards. I'd rather have a guy that is going to use is intelligence and his work ethic to improve his inaccuracy. Even if the other guy has more "talent."

    • That hit on Stolarz was dirty was fug. Just came in and gave him an elbow on purpose to the head.
    • Brindamour said this isn't the time of the year for making changes and therefore expect Nikishin to be a healthy scratch til at least two defenceman get injured. Yes I said two because ya don't make changes and there other guys on the roster who've played with the group in games.
    • lol Honestly, it might sound dumb, but I've had this idea in my head of a specific picture I really want to get with him since draft night. Basically I want it to be of the two of us sitting on the floor next to each other with the picture from behind.  Ideally it would have been with us both wearing T-Mac jerseys (and me wearing an Arizona hat that has block A logo on the back of it too), but since they won't have baby versions of those for a bit and that does seem like a waste of money on something he'll grow out of in a few months, I think I'll go with this that I've found on Amazon for like 12 bucks........ I'll get this made with T-Mac's #4 but then my Nephew's first name (which incidentally starts with a T, so I've already joked to my sister that she needs to change his middle name to something with "Mc" or "Mac" in it so i can call him T-Mac lol) Just think that would make for a really cool picture for me to have of him at this age (just over 13 months now), with the two of us wearing our #4's.  It's the type of thing I can absolutely see myself getting it printed out by Shutterfly on one of those canvas like prints to hang on my wall. And seeing as they live in NYC with me in Michigan, not sure the next time I'll see him again as I can't just drive on down the street for a picture when the jersey arrives, so was hoping I'd be able to take advantage of seeing them at the end of the month to get this picture, but it would all be dependent on the jersey (and this custom onesie) being shipped in time.
