Patrick Peterson Meeting W/ Panthers Tonight

He is an amazing athlete, but if I am not mistaken we were the worst offensive team last year and ranked 15th in total defense last year. Our defense was 8th in turnovers with 29 and we still only managed to win 2 games. Doesn't that tell anyone anything? We need OFFENSE.

Tell me which offensive player we will draft that helps us change that at #1. I'll save you the time.

NOBODY. Draft Peterson, shut down half the field, gain the ability to play how we want to play on defense.

Really. The offensive woes are at QB and WR due to inexperience. Drafting players does not solve this problem--time and patience does. The defense is 3 players from being very good.

If we have a lockout, even more reason NOT to draft a developmental project at QB. No offseason to learn the system? He would have 2 rookie years.

We have used time and patience since 1995.

Well PP would allow us to play more cover-1 I think. We could blitz the safety and let PP cover the WR on an island.

There is no reason to risk blowing the first pick on a project QB at this time, especially when next seasons draft class at the quarterback position looks far more promising. Instead of trying to keep pace with Brees, Ryan, and Freeman, create a dominant defense that will shut down the pass and make their arms and passing attack null and void. It wins champions.

There is no need to stretch and grab QB who really shouldn't be taken at number one overall. Sure he has upside, but rebuilding is a process. It's not something you turn around in one draft and expect to keep par with pro bowl quarterbacks. Wait until your franchise guy comes out and draft him then.

It has to BPA, at this point I think Dareus or Peterson has separated themselves from the pack when taking into account our needs and holes on defense. Personally I would go with Peterson, I think he is the best overall prospect in this draft along with Green.

Why talk to PP when CB never gets drafted with the first pick?

Because just because it hasn't been done before, it doesn't mean that it won't happen this year. It really isn't your typical year.

Don't understand how anyone would be surprised by this really. It's expected.

I like PP a lot but he isn't going to shut down "half the field" against a team like the Saints. With more teams going to the spread it places more emphasis on depth at corner more than having a great no.1.

We have used time and patience since 1995.

But this is the first year we have had this particular situation. I agree, though. I have been screaming for a QB, DT in the draft for four years now. However, my point is this: When youth is the problem you don't fix it by adding even younger players.

I look at the defense and I see Gamble, 28 years old with maybe 2-3 years left, Munnerlyn, a nickel CB, and ---? This would be a good time to draft a CB.

The draft is deep at DT, so #65 should be our rookie and we add a free agent.

QB? We drafted 2 or 3 last year. They take time. It would be stupid to give up on them so soon. Bring in a veteran. None are that great, but many will be better than Cam in 2011, especially if there is a lockout.

Peterson is starting to look like the pick to me, but a DT or DE could step up.

Who knows. Maybe we are waiting to see what happens with the CBA>
