face of the franchise baby, Ricky Stanzi

As I input the key game/tougher opponent game data for Ricky Stanzi into our algorithm for analyzing college QBs, I just kept saying "that's pretty good" after each game entered...and it just kept rolling. Before I went to take a look at Stanzi's overall total score in our system I thought, "this could be pretty good". When I did finally look at the overall rating, it wasn't good -- it was great. It was college-to-NFL projected "elite". High up on the list wedged in-between Carson Palmer and Mark Sanchez, and slightly above Philip Rivers and Aaron Rodgers. I had to go back check a 2nd and 3rd time to see if I had made an error. No error...

Can Ricky Stanzi really be a future elite NFL QB? Can he really be the # 1 overall best QB (according to our system right now)? Right now he is for us. A lot of this potential stardom projection is riding on his Wonderlic scores from the NFL Combine, a bad score can tumble Stanzi right out of great and into maybe good or mediocre. Assuming an average/good Wonderlic score, Ricky Stanzi is the hidden gem QB of 2011.

The 14 QBs with no red-flags of 60+ studied in the last decade (and a few outside of the last decade) *in alphabetical order:

Bradford, Sam

Brady, Tom

Elway, John (sketchy, we have yet to be able fully break him down due to some missing data...but of what we have, he has none)

Flacco, Joe

Kolb, Kevin

Leftwich, Byron

Luck, Andrew

Manning, Peyton

Palmer, Carson

Pike, Tony (may not belong here, we have a sketchy Wonderlic data point we have assumed neutral until we know...but if bad, he would fall off list)

Pennington, Chad

Rodgers, Aaron

Roethlisberger, Ben

Sanchez, Mark

oh look. Pike is still a star waiting on our bench according to this system.

well, at least Cam Newton's wonderlic score means this system now thinks he's a bust... er... yeah, good thing it's worthless.

Hey, I'm the world's most intelligent human being I can predict the future. My name is Mav, I'm stating for a fact that Pike who has not played anymore than a rookie season of football is a terrible player because if I am ever proven wrong it will be too far in the future for anyone to remember me saying such a stupid comment. Instead, I will say now that Pike will be now and forever a terrible quarterback despite the fact he has never started an NFL game. Being that I think like that, I also refuse to believe that there were ever the players by the name of Brett Farve, Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner, Steve Young, and countless other make believe players that do not exist because a player cannot ever be good after not showing he is a good player his first year.

    • Smith-Wade for me. He has the path to some decent hefty snaps in Evero’s scheme. He held his own last year and improved as he continued to get snaps— If he makes some strides, could be a very capable nickel.  I agree with Sanders. Bryce had some trust in him that final Falcons game post crazy head-stand.  Bryce looked for him a lot that final game and made some critical catches to get us the W. Seems he’s put in major work so I’m hopeful about him.  Wallace will have an offseason under his belt. I like him a lot, was higher graded than most remember in his draft (I.e Brugler had him LB3/70 overall) but he isn’t as cerebral of an LB as we’re used to. I think he could thrive if we get D captain/film-junky type next to him— because right now that’s Jewell.  Still a bit cautious but love the talent. Rozeboom may snag some playing time from him if he’s still working out the kinks.
    • Didnt Canales already say starters are playing in the pre season? either way extra reps dont hurt but im not one of those people that think playing in the pre season would have saved Bryce from an awful start.
    • very helpful.  I read back in this thread where they might try Jarvis at C--I thought he and Aho had good chemistry, however.  Nonetheless, he could expand his value there, and now we have a guy who can play jarvis' spot.  Freddie is a pro, no doubt--and as little as I know about the inner workings of strategy and positions, I could tell Burns was burning us at times.  I figured he'd retire and I was looking forward to it.  FWIW, they have Jarvis listed as a C on the 2025-26 roster.
