R J Stanford in Esquire

Mr. Scot

Overall, his part of the article was pretty good. He seems like he's a genuinely good guy with a pretty good head on his shoulders.

However, I couldn't get past him talking about living on Ramen and PB&J but still taking a trip to Las Vegas for Valentines Day. It's great that he wanted to do something special for his GF. But, I would imagine, that she would rather real food to eat, than a weekend in Vegas.

Yea, he seemed like he had a lot of trouble saving money during the season. I'm sure someone told him about the possibility of the lockout, but he still went splurging on his friends. Hopefully this is a good life lesson for him, at least.

He did seem like he had a plan in place, but he did a really bad job planning for the worst.

I read the article at catscratchreader and the author there made a good point that Stanford is probably exaggerating a little with the ramen noodles and pb&j....I doubt he intended to imply that he's having trouble putting food on his plate. With that said, he definitely can't complain if he's still taking trips to Vegas for a birthday. He did say he cut out vacations and put off buying a house, though.

I saw that and thought the same thing but you can get a decent weekend package for not to bad if he didn't go ape spending when he got there.

But being unemployed since September, I feel his pain :(

    • You know, there's something about this whole JAG thing that really just drives home the idea that to some folks, these players aren't real people, just names and stats.  Of course, it goes beyond sports. We're a sad, jaded species, us humans.
    • I hope we get no featured games, or only one if that's still a thing Don't like having to subscribe to a service just to see the panthers play a single game, i'm looking at you peacock Football is made for sunday afternoons Word
    • Yeah, it's just dumb. Everything is year to year. I never understood how anyone could stay engaged as a Kentucky fan or duke fan as duke became a one and done factory like Calipari made Kentucky. The thing I liked at about UNC is that we primarily focused on recruits likely to play multiple years. We'd have pur occasional one and done but most of our pros still played multiple years. And the days of the Stackhouses, Wallace, Jamison, Carter, etc. playing multiple years is just over. And now you have your role players entering the portal every year to test the waters elsewhere. I don't blame them for looking out for themselves but just personally speaking I'll run out of interest quickly trying to get to know a whole new roster year over year.
