NFL Exec.: Cam Would Be Clear-Cut #1, If He Were White (And Other Valuable Nuggets)

Just like Obama is a socialist and a communist and a muslim, Cam is a "thug" and a "running qb"

All these nouns are meant to replace the one word they want to say, but can't. I'll give you one hint as to what that is.

"running qb" is the favorite on the huddle

Stats do matter. They may not tell the 100% full picture, but they do matter a lot.

Sure they matter some. But Clausen (2009) and Bradford (2008) had similar passing numbers. Bradford threw a lot more passes, but the percentages were similar, and yet Bradford was clearly better than Clausen.

The most important thing is a quarterback's ability to throw accurately under pressure, and to keep a clear head. And those are things that college just doesn't give an accurate measure of.

I've been thinking it and I'm white too. The media always hangs on some white QBs ballsack and rides it all draft season. Matt Lienart, Jimmy Clausen, and now Blaine Gabbert. None of those were/are extremely special but the media and especially Mel Kiper have pushed them like they're the players agent.

lol....Kiper. Kiper was saying the other day that the WR position and lines were the biggest concerns in Carolina. Kiper clearly owed someone a favor to such a degree he still can't call a spade, a spade.

Maybe some don't want him because of his skin color. My concerns about him have more to do with how his skillset and the offense he played in translates to the NFL.

I could care less whether he were white, black, hispanic, portugese, asian, etc....

Picking him just makes me nervous.....big risk with him.

If we pick him, I hope he is more like Big Ben and Steve McNair, than like Vince Young and an early Mike Vick.

I want a QB that makes the passing game a legitimate threat....not a third RB in the backfield.

for the love of god, why on earth would you give KT this kind of ammo.....we are going to hear about this for years

just a joke, no one freak out

In all seriousness though, that really is sad. On the flip side of the coin, I would steer clear of Ryan Mallett like the plague

I think stats do matter, but watching film that got you those stats should matter the most. Everything I've seen of Newton on the field suggests he will be a dynamic player in the NFL. Could I be wrong? Sure. I'm no scout. But I just don't see how you could pass on someone that could change the fortune of the team..even if there is a chance he doesn't.

One day, a black man WILL be drafted with the number one pick. How this has never happened before is reprehensible in this day and age.

I predict it'll happen in 2001. In fact, I'd be so bold as to predict it'll happen again in 2007.

I hope the problem isn't denying the bias, because that is everywhere. The problem on this board is that some of you try to discern who is racially basis, which is damn near impossible unless you ask or meet them.

Actually, it's pretty easy to tell.

See, the guys who don't think Newton should go number one, they're racially biased

Since I don't know the answer here is my question? How many NFL execs are black?? How about GMs, or even directors of scouting??

Is Gregory white or black?? Can't find a picture of him.

I would assume most of the people anyone will talk to higher up the ladder are white. But I don't follow things based on race so I could be way off.

Gregory is black.

We don't know anything about the race of the scouts, GMs, personnel people or Auburn employees who have said negative things about Newton to analysts.

To assume that all of them must be white would be a racial bias itself, would it not?

    • This whole thing is sooooooooo dumb, why any of this is an ongoing news story is ridiculous. There are only 2 people who should actually care about this, his wife and her husband. Affairs happen, not that I'm saying it's okay to cheat, but at worst, the only "bad thing" that could be coming around from this affair is that information was passed between them, the same type of info that any coach and journalist who are friends may share with each other to help the other out. The Patriots shouldn't care as long as it doesn't affect his focus on the team.  And those saying that he's lost the locker room and their respect over the "lying" have to be fooling themselves.  Half the players in that locker room are more than likely actively or previously have cheated on their significant other.  So it's not like they're looking at him saying, "what a liar and terrible person, I can't trust him as my coach anymore"
    • Seriously?!?! First SNF game of the year and it's two teams that didn't make the playoffs last year? I thought they always made that Week 1 SNF game a banger with two great teams from the previous season. EDIT:  Just looked, last year was Bills-Ravens, previous season was Lions-Rams, Giants-Cowboys ironically before that (but both coming off the playoffs).  From what I can tell, this will be the first time since 2020 that SNF's week 1 game isn't 2 teams from the playoffs the year before, and the Cowboys were in that one too, against the Rams who also didn't make it the year before.
