Lots of rumors. Just don't know where they are coming from. Is this the media ricocheting off their own little bubble or are they talking to personnel people, gms, and scouts?? Who knows. But I have a feeling they are hearing rumors from each other.

Here is a summary of Walterfootball's updated MockDraft.

Round 1: Cam Newton, QB

Round 3: Orlando Franklin, OG, and Siona Fua, DT

Round 4: Jordan Cameron, TE (Do we really need another TE right now?)

Round 5: Demarcus Van Dyke, CB

Round 6: Cliff Mathews, DE and Martin Parker, DT

Round 7: (Walterfootball doesn't have round 7 predictions at this point)

So that's 1 QB, 1 O-lineman, 3 defensive Lineman, 1 defensive backfield, 1 Tight End

This brings up the question, what would be your ideal setup for drafting player positions if we draft a qb at number one? (dont have to list names, just numbers like "3 lineman" or 2 guards)

I would think a good mixture of both they see Mayock move him up, our own GM sticking up for Cam, Moon talking up Cam and the two back to back interviews we have with him this week if I am not mistaken.

What has turned into a KT fantasy has now turned into reality.

Im 4-5 years ahead of my time. Guys on this board used to tell me all the time "I dont care what our QB looks like, green, purple, yellow, I just want the best guy for the job". Well, now we really get to prove it. No more lip service, we finally are gonna ACT on that and prove it to the world. More importantly we get to prove it to ourselves. I really hope the ones in denial about this or are hoping it doesnt happen dont try to act like they've been down for this guy from day 1 when he's winning us over next season. Thats not fair to the ones who were open minded about all of this and werent afraid to show it.

agreed.i've been fighting this war since day one and nearly stoned off of this board for not being in the collective. Thinking outside the box, thinking vick would have been a good pick up and now newton. I'm curious to what the nay sayers and unbelievers will do if he is successful.

Look for ways to downplay it, portray his fans as illogical and starstruck, tell us Jerry Richardson was "tricked" into doing this and is a victim, blah blah blah. The usual. Id love to see some of the detractors step up and admit they are dead wrong sometimes, I just wonder if their pride and ego will allow it.

This from the guy that said that the Panthers would never, ever draft a black QB because they are a racist organization.

If we do draft Newton, I'm still not sure if I want Cam playing next season. This guy is an immense talent, and I don't want to fug him up by throwing him in too early. He may be ready for it, but clearly Jimmy wasn't and later cried about it. Not saying Cam would do that, but I don't want to fug up his psyche. Bring him along, show him the ropes. Rivera and Chud will know when he is ready.

Summary: I like Cam, I think we should draft him. Don't rush him out there, let him develop into his potential a la Aaron Rodgers, but if he is good to go from the start like Matt Ryan, then by all means start his ass over Teh pickles

Be a gracious winner.

Yea it's a deep DT class I think we'll address that position in the third.

With FA after the draft this year, there are going to be a bunch of DTs who will find it difficult to get market value, because of the large number of high picks for DTs in this draft. This is probably one area the Panthers can pick up a couple of decent vets

I think the writing is on the wall with us drafting Cam Newton, the interest we're showing in him goes way beyond a smoke screen to try and induce a trade... that doesn't mean we wouldn't consider a trade, but we're proceeding as if we're going to use the # 1 pick.

Hurney jumping to the defense of Cam and slamming Nowrocki in the process sealed it for me, it was clear that Hurney already views Cam as "his guy".

I agree completely. There really isn't any new info out there. Many of these draft guys probably just feel like the writing is on the wall and don't want to be left standing on an island.

As much as I support the idea of Cam to the Panthers, until they turn in the card we really cannot be sure of anything.

    • I’m honestly not trying to argue with you or talk bad about Scourton, I like him and I’ve watched all of his Purdue stuff/videos you linked previously. Just like I’ve watched all of Princely’s Florida stuff I’m only pointing out the weight thing because I’m excited about the idea of him being 255-260 and being more of a stand up edge here in Carolina like he was at Purdue versus at A&M And like you, I have a crap load of experience doing the whole cutting/weight/fitness thing and I know how crappy/sluggish I feel when I’m holding as little as an extra 8-10lbs of unnecessary weight. So for Scourton to come out and say he’s 255-260 now and feels good that’s exciting based on what he’s put on film at 280 and not feeling his best
    • I hate seeing this. I'm not sure he was ever going to make it in the NFL without the injury but that injury knocked FSU out of the college football playoffs and cost him and them and opportunity on the biggest stage in college sports. The injuries are the worst part of this game. They've created a nearly unending list of "what ifs". Hell, every HS, college, and pro team out there has a long list of them. It's also a good reminder that there's no such thing as a routine major injury. Even though sports medicine has improved dramatically in recent decades, major injuries are still somewhat of a coin flip on how a guy is going to emerge from it.
    • I don't know what Texas A&M was doing with their edge rushers. They had two freaks in Scourton and Shemar Stewart and yet instead of turning them loose they asked them to play 20 lbs overweight and just set the edge. That's full-on coaching malpractice at any level. Much was made about Shemar Stewart's lack of sack production, but while he wasn't my favorite prospect this year a lot of that was clearly what they were asking him to do. The good news with Scourton is that, unlike Stewart, did manage to be a huge factor as a pass rusher despite this and despite playing 20 lbs overweight. If he can stay around 260-265 it should help him re-gain some of that explosiveness from his Purdue days.
