Carolina's Draft Visits and Work-Outs

According to the reports that came out about Mallet this week and him bagging an interview with Panthers because he was "sick". He had dinner in Charlotte the night before with Julio Jones WR Alabama. I would assume Jones wasn't in Charlotte for a vacation

How often do teams not work a player out and still draft them at #1?

Never.

How many times have a team drafted a player #1 overall and no one knew of a team meeting but one happened? I'm not sure but I would say it's happened.

No one knew that Julio Jones came in for a visit until Mallett's agent said something about it. If the team can keep that a sercert for a reasonable amount of time I'm sure there are some guys like Miller that have had meetings and no one knew about it in the media.

Alabama defensive tackle Marcell Dareus will visit the Buffalo Bills this week, according to a league source.

Dareus, who stopped by NFL Network earlier this month, has visits scheduled with seven teams picking in the top 10, with the Denver Broncos said to be interested with the No. 2 pick in next month's NFL Draft.

The Carolina Panthers will meet with Dareus and are considering the 6-foot-3, 319-pound defensive lineman with the draft's top pick. Dareus is also scheduled to meet with the Broncos, Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers, Tennessee Titans and Washington Redskins.

nfl.com...

his last tweet was on march 29...the day after the article was written...

On my way to my first team wish me luck

here...and he hasn't tweeted anything since.

as already stated, information on team visits/private workouts is usually leaked.

i would imagine dareus wouldn't necessarily being doing any real workouts. no one has any questions or concerns about his technique or ability to play.

it would be easy to have a private meet and greet with certain front office personell and no one know about it.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread, but I hadn't seen this anywhere else...

On the field, Irving’s production speaks for itself. He weighed in at 242 pounds and ran well for his size, which will garner attention. After you see him work out, his best position on the NFL level is probably as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Linebacker coaches from Baltimore, Carolina and Tampa Bay were on hand to watch Irving, and both the Ravens and Panthers run 3-4 schemes.

The article focuses solely on Nate. (projected 3-5) I think he could be a beast at the Will if TD can't come back, but I don't know if we would take a LB that early unless they know that either TD or Anderson are gone. I think we may also have been getting a look at Owen Spencer WR (projected 7-UDFA) or Jake Vermiglio OG/T. (projected UDFA) Spencer has the size and speed to thrive in an ACO, his hands are questionable but he finished second all time behind Torry Holt at State. Vermiglio has decent size/technique, but would definitely be a project. (hence UDFA)

Honestly, I think we could end up having a successful draft even if the Panthers take Newton and everyone starts to criticize the pick.

1. Cam Newton

3rd. Davon House

3rd. Terrell McClain

4. Taiwan Jones

Looks good to me.

Every position gets addressed in the top 3 picks.

Exactly. I dont understand why those people that hate Newton would freak if we pick him because we can easily address other areas with our picks. The DT and DB pools are very deep. Not to mention we can also fill those and other areas in free agency very easily.
