Newton: "The offense I ran at Auburn was NOT 'simple'.

Cam will be on the field this year weather some of you like it or not. might not be the greatest idea, but your kidding yourself if you think we are going to bench him for a year to sit behind Clausen. and I will go ahead and say this, im not a Jimmy hater, like some people. Also i was not the 1st one on the draft Cam wagon, but we need to get the excitement back in in carolina and FO knows this. think about how hard it was for Matt to hold off jimmy. Think about it how long are you going to let jimmy sit there and be average at best. Cam was drafted #1 for a reason and it means the coaches are Cam jock sniffers at this time. they smell what the cam is cooking, he could sell them all stolen Laptops right now. the are under his spell and nothings going to stop that until

he has a bad game or 2.

our FO isn't entirely short-sighted like so many fans.. if Cam isn't ready, I fully expect Clausen or whoever to take the punishment until he is.

the press conference already stated Cam isn't going to start just for poos and giggles..

Rivera is a new coach, losing games isn't going to shorten his leash this upcoming year, and most likely not next.. It's worth taking the appropriate steps to ensure future success.

I expect them to say stuff like that, as that is the PC thing to say when you bring a new guy in. i just know what ive seen in to many cases, and that people want to see the new shiny car they just bought on the road. they dont want to leave it in the garage, and they know it could get birdcrap all over it the 1st day, but they just need to see what they got. im not saying it will be the best thing for Cam, but i just am pretty sure they will have him starting some time next year, i do think it will be 3 or 4 games in. but who knows for sure right now. thats just my gut feeling. Eether way Go Panthers!! eat poo NFC south "others" and cowbitches same as every other year.

I think that applies more to fans than anyone..

but next on the list, there are coaches who need to test drive their shiny new car.. however, Rivera to me comes across more deliberate than impulsive..

All this breakdown of Auburns offense from the head coach... Not Huddle posters.

I like that he talks about how many reads Cam really had and what Route trees that his WRs run.

Also he challanges these draft experts to come to Aubun and explain how his spread offense works. He also says how off these breakdowns are in the media... But its probally nothing but a smokescreen to some on the huddle.

Anyone that answers questions as flawlessly as Newton does is intelligent. Even if the offense was simple, that isn't his fault as he stated.

Seriously, for the people that actually listened to the whole interview, it should bed obvious that this kid is much much smarter than Vince Young or JaMarcus Russell. Those comparisons are just ignorant. There more I hear him talk, the more impressed I am with Cam Newton.

Just because the plays are numbered doesn't mean the play itself is simple. The play call may have been simple, but he still has to execute the play itself.

I'm sure we put him through some pretty intensive white board stuff during our visits with him. It's hard for me to imagine Hurney/Rivera signing off on him if he struggled that badly, especially since we now know both Shula & Chud lobbied for him to be the pick.

As someone who played a lot of football in their life, most playcalling language is based on a series of intuitive words - Twins right (receiver formation) balance (blocking scheme) 125 (I formation, halfback, running through the 5-hole) power (pulling guard), for example; from that basic language, you can make up endless combinations using the same terms, which is why a 900-page playbook doesn't necessarily mean squat. If a guy isn't "grasping the playbook", it's likely because he hasn't studied enough to understand the terminology, not because he doesn't know all 900 plays exactly, and IMO it takes effort to NOT pick up on that stuff (see: Dwayne Jarrett).

Honestly, I would have a harder time remembering specific play numbers like

"36" than having the play spelled out for me every time like it was above. In all of the pics and clips I've seen, Cam was NOT wearing a reference wristband, so unless his center or another lineman was wearing one (probably not a skill player since they sub in and out more often), which is unlikely because the defense could just stare at it before the snap, that entire team remembered exactly what "36" meant and executed in concert. Fairly impressive IMO.

Just because the guy was not previously asked to do something, does not mean he is not capable of it.

No, it doesn't. it usually means, however, that you are not used to doing it, not comfortable doing it, that it doesn't come natural, is not second nature, and/or that there is learning and development that needs to be accomplished. The fact is that some people can learn, adapt, and pick up the new scheme, procedures, etc and there are some that can't. Dwayne Jarrett is a prime example of someone who couldn't, and he was finally cut and chalked up as a loss. I am not - NOT - saying Cam is a 'Jarrett'. I am saying that it is more probable than not that he is not going to be able to step right in and start for Carolina, especially with the lockout in place and the possibility that he will miss part or all of spring / pre-seaon workouts/training.

There are a lot of factors that will go into his development and preparation. Some of them directly have to do with him, and some are completely out of his control. We will just need to sit back and let Rivera, Schula, and Cam do their 'thang' and see how it all goes down and pull for Cam to develop into that franchise QB.

I would personally like to see Cam develop into what people THINK Andrew Luck will be. Nothing against the guy, but it would be a little funny if the guy turns into anther David Carr while Cam turns into the 2nd coming of 'Joe Montanna on steroids'! :ihih:
