Smitty to Chargers rumors heating up

Recommended Posts

Did everyone forget JACKSON wants out of SD? I don't care if the guy is in his prime. He isn't happy their.

Other than rumor as Smitty publically say he wanted out, that he didn't want to be around Cam? or Clausen? Too many well, someone said, his wife's sisters husband said Smitty wanted out, his home on the market...blah blah blah.

Personally I hope he stays. He is no closer to the Super Bowl with the SD Chokers than he is with the Panthers.

All this said.... IF we were to trade him to SD for VJ... I would say straight up. I definitely don't think we should give him away. If we don't get a good offer than I have no doubt he will suit up and play with JC or Newton.

Smith told Steve Reed he wanted to be traded and listed two teams.

This isn't a rumor, it's a well documented fact.

What I do not fully understand is the emotional attachment to Smitty. First, that is the same thing that Hurney and Fox had for Jake, signing him to a big contract when he was done. Smitty is the greatest Panther to ever wear the black and blue, but he has always been a cancer off the field. You do not know how his antics impacted the team.

I watch OTAs, and Smitty has fire and intensity in June. Kasay is the only player who voluntarily talks to him. He is a loner on the team. When you punch teammates, that is what happens.

This is a business, and Smitty's best days are behind him. Speed WRs hit the wall at his age, almost like a RB. He is earning a #1 WR salary and he is now a slot WR. THere are too many practical reasons to let him go. With Kealoha Pilares now on the roster, Smitty is gone, IMO because Smitty needs to move inside to the slot to stay effective. That would give us 3 slot WRs, and we have not given up on Armanti Edwards.

Thanks for the many memories, some great, some emabarassing. If we can get a third rounder for him, do it. Then use the $7-8 million per we save to sign a veteran #1 WR.

I imagine Rivera had his fill of Jackson's mess in SD. We are getting Cam, a QB with baggage, but I am starting to think that stuff is way behind him. We are getting Hogan, a CB with baggage. We will be losing Smith, a WR with baggage. We are a football team, not the cargo handlers at Charlotte Douglas.

Its hard to find something that simply do not exist. He wants out that seems like a given but he have not said it out loud yet.

** I reported months ago that Smith has asked team officials for a trade (I’m told he wants to play for Baltimore or San Diego). I imagine the team will work to accomodate him, but the bottom line is the Panthers aren’t going to give him away either. They’re going to want some compensation.

Yeah, this definitely doesn't fugging exist. I made it up strictly for conjecture and entertainment purposes.

    • He’s also 21 years old. I don’t know why fiz is so eager to label him a bust
    • It’s wild to me that so many of you guys are threatened by the idea of an opposing team fan who is polite in 2025. He’s been posting here on and off for years, usually when our teams play each other which hasn’t been for a while. I’d maybe understand this treatment if it was a falcons or saints fan, but packers fans in general are one of the nicer fan bases as long as you aren’t another NFC north team (especially the bears).
    • Some players excel on the big stage, while others freeze and succumb to the pressure. I’m not convinced Cam took a dive. I think he didn’t handle the stage very well. The pressure got to him and he folded. He wouldn’t be the first quarterback or player to struggle in a Super Bowl. Two HOF examples - John Elway and Jim Kelly. The 2002 MVP, Rich Gannon, threw 5 interceptions against the Bucs. Poor performances happen.  Unless of course you believe all these players threw the games they played in, but if that occurred, surely someone by now would have admitted taking a dive? 🤷‍♂️
