DEN - Team would have to be "wowed" to move Orton

Omar Kelly, from the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports via Twitter that according to people he's talked to the Denver Broncos would have to be 'wowed' by an offer for Kyle Orton to move him in a trade.

There is a sentiment that The Golden Calf of Bristol doesn't have the full support of the new front office in Denver. However, John Elway has been honest and complimentary of The Golden Calf of Bristol when talking about his young quarterback after the draft. The price for Orton may be inflated by this 'need to be wowed' talk. We think the Broncos would jump at the chance to trade Orton for a second- or third-round pick.

I don't think he would be coming to Carolina anyway, but I know a few of you have brought this up in the past, so here's an update on that situation.

At this point, I say we stick with who we have. I don't want to bring in a vet to start. If we're bringing in a vet, he needs to be a teacher/mentor for Cam and Jimmy, whoever starts.

Hurney already said that he is bringing in a Vet, it's not "will" he bring in one, it's "when". Rivera will get someone to mentor Cam and Jimmy, but if Cam's not ready, then you have a stop gap until he is. Rivera wants him to start, but he's not just going to hand the reigns over to him immediately.

Let Cam start from the get go, or don't start him period.

You start him when he's ready, don't throw him in too early. Rivera will be splitting reps with Newton and Jimmy in camp. Only to bring competition and up Jimmy's trade value. Rivera WILL NOT hand Newton the starting job on a silver platter, he will have to work for it.

With that said I do believe Newton will start the season, only because of the position we are in.

Orton is a solid QB. You have to consider he didn't have much to work with on the Broncos, but still managed to do well. I don't think he is worth a number 1 or anything. I could see a second rounder. I don't consider him a vet in terms of age, and in terms of the role, he isn't even 30 yet. He would want to start I would assume. While I like Orton I think someone older who can play the role better and be willing to eventually give it up for Cam or Clausen relatively soon. I like Bulger or Palmer and it sounds like these QBs would be a lot cheaper.

Orton is a decent QB.

But, his performance in both Chicago and Denver is NO WHERE near a top QB. Fox is dreaming if he thinks someone is going to break the bank to get Kyle Orton.

We will be getting a veteran QB who comes in knowing he is going to be a mentor and a backup. Orton does not fit either of those roles. When a lot of teams would trade for Orton to be a starter, why would he come to Carolina to be a stop gap and a backup?

John Fox has never had a solid QB. The best thing he's ever had was Jake Delhomme... which isnt saying much. Now Kyle Orton is no Joe Montana but he's serviceable. I think The Golden Calf of Bristol will be a solid QB in this league... but John Fox likes what he's getting out of the Big Brother (Orton) -lil Brother (The Golden Calf of Bristol) type of scenario where The Golden Calf of Bristol learns behind a starter. I think that bringing Kyle Orton here is a bad idea. If you're gonna rebuild, then rebuild. Im hoping we dont start trying to sign a bunch of older guys to win now... it hardly ever works and you dont sustain that kinda success very long. Leave him right where he is. We can get the same value at a lesser price.

orton is the ideal john fox QB.

nothing flashy...just solid/serviceable/breathing and knows what he's doing.

i'm sure fox loves The Golden Calf of Bristol as a leader, but he'll have to force The Golden Calf of Bristol into that little tiny box that he expects all QBs to fit into.

    • Watching games this year again and Bryce missed a wide open XL many times and some of them were in the endzone. I get the kid has mental lapses and hasn't broke out yet, but this is year three on a rookie deal! Cutting bait now is too early. If he hasn't gained anymore trust from his QB, posted any highlights, little production, or outright gets beat out then we can talk movement.
    • Samesies   I truly may just cash completely out of Panther football if we give him a long term deal that isnt necessary.  I have watched NFL for 50 years now and I can without a shadow of a doubt say you cannot win consistently with BY.  Way too many limitations to deal with.   I may come back around in 3 years when the inevitable happens and all parties are either cut and/or fired.  Giving him a deal before this season so you hopefully can get him cheaper in case he "blows up" or if you truly believe that he will has to be the most moronic decision a gm can make when the evidence is laid before you with different players
    • This is the one! I was at that game and all KB had to do was lay down on the corner after the pick or make an obvious tag while he was down. He had already ran a lazy route. Then if Cam would've just walked to the sideline like most elite QBs instead of trying to make the tackle.  A lot of people bring up the TJ Watt hit, but he just reaggravated a bunch of scar tissue from that play. And every Cam hater said that the running did him in and it was a dive tackle attempt on an interception that initially began the shoulder deterioration. He still went to New England later and would've got them in the playoffs had their A team not sat out the covid year. We quit on him too early. But hey how good was Teddy? Am I right?
