PFF: Dispelling the myth that rookie QBs favor TEs

Yes, I'm browsing Pro Football Focus and that's why there's a few threads about articles from there by me. This one was also interesting, I thought. Stats say veteran QBs actually throw to TEs a higher % of their throws than rookie QBs (but only slightly). Good info all around in the article.

I didn't get the same impression from looking at the article. Seems to me that the rookies had a pretty high percentage throwing to TEs. I think the most important factor is the talent level per team of the tight end and number of plays called where the TE is the #1 option. No question it is easier to throw to a TE b/c they are directly in the QB's field of vision.

jimmy clausen really is captain checkdown...

More like captain throwaway.

How many plays (seemed to be 2 out of 4 downs) did he roll out and throw the ball out of bounds?

I can't think of a better example of a wasted down, which we seemed to see in every series.

stats in the article says that rookie QBs throw it to the TE 19% of the time compared to the vets throwing it 20%. pretty clear, actually.

i read this article a couple weeks ago and the thing that really stuck out to me was overall, of course, vets throw the ball quite a bit more than rookies do and their completion % is better, the distribution rates are pretty much right in line with each either. not really any difference at all.

It was THE worst when he threw away on fuging third down.

If Cam starts right out of the gate, I think we are going to see alot of Cam-Shocky connection. It justs makes sense that a rookie would look to a veteran when dealing with pressure.

I agree but for a slightly different reason. Chud's offenses use the tight end more than many teams. So it is likely no matter who is at quarterback, there will be more plays called for the tight end. Particularly on third down.

    • 3rd and Chandler Zavala.......... Id toss in Yohsi or Brano/DJ Johnson if that's what it took to get the trade done.    Bungals need OL B-A-D   Its un-godly to treat a unique HOF level level like Burrow with the OL they have and seems going to this year. People forgot during that bungal SB year, Burrow was sacked like 62 times and I believe had the highest hurries as well. They should be in jail for this, no memeing....
    • I will admit this- Kon doesn't look or play like a 19 year. Much bigger and filled out than I thought he was. Plus initiate the offense during his best quarter and he did make some good passes for FG attempts.   I watch NBA years ago and was a top 3 fantasy yahoo managers for years. Many times a player had like 30 points, it mostly came from one or 2 hot quarters. The others were 5 and 0, so his 16 point game is normal in that regard.    If Ball, bridges, and Miller allow Kon to be apart of the team, just depends on if he clicks of not. Another generic white guy comp popped in my head........he of hornet lore-Gordon Hayward 15 points 5 rebs 3.5 asst Maybe??
