Another thing to consider for people like might self who thinks there a chance we might have over paid.....

We cannot look at contracts of prior years as a comparison. Because the salary floor was much lower there was not as much $$$ required to spent during the season. With teams needing to be at 99% of the cap by year end there is ALOT of money to go around.

Basic economics say with that much money available, and teams desired to be contenders, top players are going to be seeing record contracts this year. So when all is said and done a may not be that bad of a contract....

My issue is more with the amount of $$$ in a position that has short useful life and a lot of turnover, especially with the NFL turning more into a passing league every year.

We still have plenty of $$$ to get all what we want and need. That 43 million is not all on this season. Going on aveage we have spent about 20 mil between D will and CJ. We still have 50 mil to go. Relax all is well in Panther Territory.

It amazes me that we have a running back that averages 5 yds per carry. Is explosive and can break it on almost any play. Between him and with J Stewart probably the best tandem in the league. 1/2 this forum wants to make him sound as if he was no better than Foster was. D'Will is a Panther for life... At least I hope so.

Man im excited, i dont care what anybody says i just couldn't see D Will in another uniform. He is too special of a player to be let go and a class act. No matter how bad the situation has been for this team he has never given any sign that he didnt want to play and be apart this organization. You dont let those guys go for anything. Screw the money, he will be worth it, that's all you need to know.

I dont put DWill in the top 5 of rb's but easily the top 10. I do know they have plans for both him and Stew, so his value may actually be that. If he gets 5 catches a game and 15-20 productive carries and we win, it will be worth it.

So how many carries for Stewart?

Little late to this party but...

One - D-Will averages 5.0 yards a carry when health. That is excellence in the NFL.

Two - Who says he got too much because of the other talent on the roster? You're nuts.

Goodson is flashy and all sexy with the ball in his hands but I've never seen worse pass protection than him. Not to mention he doesn't have the most secure hands.

Maybe you can make an argument for Sutton.

Either way, the combo of J-Stew and D-Will is clearly the standard for the NFL and worth spending the money to keep intact.

of course, all of this is imho

We had the worst offense in football last year, mainly because of QB play, so we addressed it with the #1 overall pick being a QB. A rookie QB's best friend is a good o-line and a great running game, so we franchised our pro-bowl Center and re-signed a top-tier RB that also happens to be one of the best team players anybody could ever ask for. Plus we still have plenty of $$ to make more moves. It may not be the 100% ideal contract, but I like what the FO is doing.

Exactly.

    • Right, so basically what I said in my first post about this last night. Tepper needs to use that big wallet of his in one of the few ways it can be used in the NFL given the cap.   Give Scourton a bigger signing bonus but not a fully guaranteed deal. Everyone wins in that scenario as if Scourton is smart and hires good money people, he'll take that bigger signing bonus and use it to make more money in the end over the next 4 years than if he just had his fully guaranteed deal and a smaller signing bonus.
    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
