Good article. 1 oversight, not realizing Ron Edwards is out for the season. Other than that, pretty fair opinions.

To be honest, the signing of Ron Edwards seemed more like a last-minute response to a lack of bodies at the defensive tackle spot. Hardly an elite player, but you can put him on the field and he won’t let you down. Unfortunately for the Panthers, Edwards is already out for the season with a torn triceps.
They got the Edwards part right.

Maybe it was edited in after you made your post?

edit: beaten like a government mule :(

sounds about right.. this team is going to have it's growing pains.. a lot to look forward to though..

if anything, I think they overlooked our DT play.. I'm feeling really good about Irving, Fua, and especially McClain.. Neblett is in his 2nd year and had a few good plays in the preseason game..

we'll see though, entirely too early to tell..

As the old guard here knows, I am quite the optimist as far as the Panthers are concerned but I truly believe that Newton is the X factor that nobody can prepare for or predict. One SEC head coach described him as an "act of God". :Angel_anim:

IF we have even half decent QB play this team will be a beast! It already looks like Rivera is living up to his "defensive guru" moniker (so far)and Chud is just what we've been looking for here for so many years, offensive creativity.

I would like all the naysayers to remember 1996.

Very honest and objective article. Very positive. That X factor could push us over the top, maybe even continue the NFC South tradition, worst to first. :out:

    • Even if he beats the odds, returns midseason  and plays like he did last year it won’t warrant a big contract extension.
    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
