So basically, Newton is getting more pressure (twice as many sacks in one less game), is making less mistakes (no ints) but still playing comparatively to a rookie performance of a guy who is now an established starter in our division,

Can we calm down now?

No two players that are worthy of discussion can be compared directly to each other. Especially when were talking two different teams in two different years.

Trying to convince the huddle to calm down is mission impossible and rather pointless.

Not trying to ignite argument here but just throwing out my 2 cents

Do what? People compare players from other teams all the time.

Now, people are blowing up Newton... but looking at another team in our division's proven starter's rookie debut IS a good comparison to see where the bar should be set.

How did Freeman's rookie campaign go? Hmm seems it was the second year he improved in... so why rush Cam?

This is no argument for him starting this year, plus Cam was picked #1 and Freeman #17. You don't draft projects at #1.

Not this poo again...

First off, Newton is no more of a project than Tom Brady, Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers was when they were drafted. It's called being a rookie. Not being a project.

Secondly. I am not saying Newton should be given the starter role. I've never said that once. However, I think he will be by default given Jimmy's performance last year.

You do at QB. Almost all Quarterbacks drafted are projects, whether they play or not in the first season.

Maybe he improved the second year because he actually got to play his rookie year.

    • Let's pause a sec and rewind. The hype for Bryce Young before we drafted him was beyond anything I've seen in a long time. If you're trying to tell me now after all the hoopla about his ability to make those around him better and the comparisons to hall of fame players across different sports leagues that him taking the next step this year fully hinges on Adam Thielen then we're probably already doomed. Thielen is not going to keep any defenses up at night. He has good hands and very low YAC. We have 4 young WR's ahead of him with potential that need crucial development and we certainly need to find out what we have in them sooner rather than later because regardless of what transpires this season the QB room should undoubtedly be getting a hard reset. Those reps need to go to the young WR's regardless. Bryce needs to step up and take ownership of the relationship between himself and his young receivers. That's why we drafted him.
    • #Raiders WR wide receiver Jakobi Meyers has requested a trade, per a league source. NFL Network first to report   https://x.com/josinaanderson/status/1960060238213546417?s=46
