Preseason Impressions: The Quarterbacks

Mr. Scot

Your way is wrong.

I am not agreeing or disagreeing, but in no way is sitting a QB for a year or two wrong. It also may not be right either.

QB's that come into the league that are more ready to play, for goodness sakes, play them. That however is very rare. For QB's like Newton that are a work in progress, IMO it's bad to throw them into the fire.

Out of my top 5 QB's in the league, just one started as a rookie. That has to account for something.

Not much difference in starting him now vs. week 6.

I am not a big believer in ruining QBs.....either you got it or don't. Bust rate typically is the same regardless. Only difference is you see the learning curve on the Sundays vs. it being out of sight. I think QBs mature quicker playing on Sunday vs. the practice field.

OL, RB, and receiving options should be good enough to play a rookie and see if he is cut out for the NFL. It is suppose to be ugly early regardless.....

Who are your top 5 QB's in the NFL?

just means they had a Pro Bowl QB already on their teams roster.....otherwise they too would have started.

"technically" we have one....but none of the others being referred to had a 2010 type season like Anderson prior to that rookie being drafted.

No, it means that they are the best in the business, and they sat for at least 1 season, and sometimes more.

Who are your top 5 QB's in the NFL?

Manning

Brady (Bledsoe was a 3 time Pro Bowler)

Rodgers (Favre was a 10 time Pro Bowler)

Rivers ( Brees had a Pro Bowl season and was the 1st of many to come)

Brees (Pro Bowler Doug Flutie)

yes they sat, they sat b/c there teams have better options to put on the field. We don't have a QB comparable to Bledsoe, Favre, Brees, or Flutie.......therefore Cam finds himself in Manning's situation.

We don't have someone comparable to Bledsoe, Favre, Brees, or Flutie on the roster. If we did, Cam would sit.

Those teams didn't put a QB who was one of the bottom 2 in the NFL the year before out on the field ahead of there rookie draft picks.

I would rather see Cams mechanics improve before throwing him to the wolves.I know all the fans want Cam but as noted by Mr Scott he is more likely to regress under live fire,We have to remember the very limited training camp make it impossible to compare Cam to other rookie Qbs that started in the past.

I was not excited when I heard we picked up Anderson but feel it would best to start him intially and let Cam enter the fray when the coaches feel he is ready.BTW.....I do not think this will happen. I feel we are missing a number of key conponets to be conpetetive so why not do it right,

I don't necessarily disagree with the analysis of the OP except I don't know how you can say with that Derek Anderson is the best QB option on the roster right now or even the guy who should start with such limited reps he has had in practice and the preseason.

Is this year about winning, or is it about rebuilding?

I is confused.

Because if we are going to lose we might as well lose with Derek Anderson

We have a new HC, new OC, and DC, .....and just drafted Newton #1 overall. How are you confused?

We started phase one of rebuilding last year, this is the 2nd phase.
