Only 3 DTs = 3-4 Defense Sunday?

Classic. Who thinks this crap up??? I have seen a lot of lame posts but this is one of the best. The logic is that we are going to a 3-4 because we only have 3 DTs. Nevermind that none of them have played in a 3-4 or that DEs in a 3-4 are DTs in a 4-3 so going to a 3-4 would mean we have a bunch of useless DEs and the shortage of DTs would be even more acute.

But I digress. No need to seriously comment and actually give some credence to that post. Just suffice it to say that going to 3-4 when you are short on 300 pounders is the opposite of what you would do.

An entirely different defensive scheme for the first game of the season with a shortened off-season and a new staff? This does not sound at all like the single biggest waste of practice time in history. That kind of stuff would work in Madden or in theory but in practice? They're going to keep practicing what they're going to run permanently come hell or high water because they need the practice time.

I'm not saying they'd change it for good or anything just trying to figure out what they are trying to do to compensate for their lack of DTs. They said they were going hybrid 3-4 right? When did they plan to install the formations? Week 16?

Also another point I wanted to bring up, with Edwards gone he would've been that guy, now it would be Fua.

It will be interesting to see what we do Sunday with just 3 DT's on the roster... we have to sign somebody (or two) before Sunday... no way we go into a game with only 3 DT's on the roster.

You don't have great 300 lb centers and guards on most college teams like you do on every pro team. Look at how Fua is getting blown off the ball. His experience in the 3-4 in college has done nothing to prepare him for the NFL.

The GREAT news in all of this DT talk is this...

Any FA DT that is out there will be waiting by their phones after week 1, because Everybody knows that any DT we pick up will start!

There will be a DT that's sitting in their couch week one, that will start for us week 2.

To clarify, the great part is that any DT would love to get a second chance at life here in Carolina. You'll get a motivated guy out to prove a point to the league and save his career.

Again not trying to say we should go to a 3-4 defense, just saying Fua has experience in a 3-4. BTW, a majority of NFL of players has come out of the PAC-10 and a few teams run pro-style offenses.
