Panthers, 4 others inquire about SEA LB Curry

All depends on the kind of cap hit he takes, remember, he was a top 5 pick, he has a huge contract. Only do this if most of it was covered in his bonuses and early years.

This has nothing to do about this thread, but I had that poster of TB on my wall when I was 9...taking it back old school

Was gonna say we might need to hold off on the excitement when I came across this article, but that last quote from Carroll sounds like they're looking at their options:

There’s been some speculation that the Seattle Seahawks are potentially interested in trading the team’s first-round draft pick from 2009, linebacker Aaron Curry.

According to this report, five teams have contacted the Seahawks about possibly making a deal, including Philadelphia, Arizona, the N.Y. Giants, Carolina and Kansas City.

However, this report is unsubstantiated by other news outlets and has not been confirmed by the Seahawks.

Earlier during training camp the Seahawks restructured Curry’s contract, making it easier to part ways with the underperforming linebacker at season’s end if they choose.

Curry agreed to cut his rookie deal from six to four years. In return for giving up $5 million in guaranteed salary Curry’s due to make in 2012, he can become a free agent at the end of that season – two years earlier at the age of 27.

The No. 4 overall draft pick in the 2009 draft was demoted to second team last week, with rookie K.J. Wright getting the nod.

Carroll said that Wright did a solid job in place of Curry, and that he doesn’t anticipate that situation changing this week.

“We’ll go to Wednesday and see how that goes, and see what that all means,” Carroll said. “But he (Wright) did play well enough to play again. He did a good job.”

Asked if he anticipates a role for Curry still in Seattle, Carroll had this to say:

“Yeah, sure he’s on our team. We’re counting on him playing and contributing. He was involved in a number of different situations yesterday. We’ll see how it goes. I’m not sure what’s going to happen this week. I don’t have to know right now.”

My take: I like the guys we have. Loved what Jason Williams did last year and he looked good again with PT this week. Thomas Williams as well. Connor could start for many other teams but isn't quite as reliable in pass coverage as I would like. That being said, I like our guys, but if the opportunity came to pick up Curry and see what he has for a cheap price, we should do it.

If it doesn't happen, no biggie.

I was impressed with our LBs against the Jags in coverage, but run support was just okay. Considering it was the Jags and Gabbert's first start, I'm not sure much can be read into their coverage.

If we can pick Curry up for cheap, it would be well worth it. He could be an upgrade and just think if we had another injury at LB...

If a deal is made, Clausen will be part of it. It would not surprise me if it is Clausen for Curry straight up or we get an extra late round pick. As bad as Clausen was last year, a young QB in a QB driven league is more valuable than a LB. I could see a team taking a chance on Clausen

    • Sometimes its fun to read the threads/posts.  The panthers could literally hire a groundskeeper and we'd have a thread "improving the field for no other reason to prop up Bryce Young".  Apparently no move is ever done to actually make the team better.  All a conspiracy to just focus on Bryce Young. Or suddenly daydreaming and reminiscing about Sam Darnold when he was hated more than Bryce Young.  Its really fun to do a message board search about Darnold during that time period.   Or thinking there is just a tree that grows QB, and you can just easily go up and pluck one.
    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
