Fair Question: Shockey, Extension?

After 4 weeks into the season, part of me is wondering why this guy didn't get a "C" on his jersey. I was always a fan of his game dating back to Miami, and I knew if he could stay healthy he still has a lot in the tank. When you look at a guy like Tony Gonzalez, I think Shockey could see similar success in terms of producing into their mid-late 30s (not that Shockey has Gonzalez numbers, just speaking in terms of still producing).

After the fire he's shown through the first 4 games, the production he's had, his candidness in interviews, his trash talk to opponents, and his willingness to demand more from his teammates, I'm really hoping Hurney considers locking him up for at least 3 or more years.

I knew I'd like the addition when we signed him, but I've been even more impressed than I had expected to this point and I feel like his presence is important on this young team and he complements Olsen and Smitty well.

I'm sure there's the possibility that he won't get a lot of money thrown his way on the open market if we let him play out his 1-year deal and we could sign him back anyway... but I think he deserves the gesture and security that comes with it. I really like what he's done so far.

I'm thinking we will, but Shockey is to be injury prone. So maybe Hurney is waiting and doesn't want to do the mistake of resigning him to a long term contract like he did Davis.

ya I like Shock, he's a fire starter. And he can still move too and get open down field... I'd bring him back for at least another year.

I'd like to. Give him a two year deal. Only problem is leaving Barnidge on the bench. Though in an offense this TE heavy, I'm sure they'll all 3 get heavy snaps.

Hell yea we need to resign shock. We've gone to long with out a legit TE ( I will say coaching had a role in that ). Now we gave two of the best ones in the game, I say why the hell wouldn't we.
