Rivera on Hogan And Armanti

you can argue our punt coverage sucks ass.. :jc:

Yeah for real. I think we may have the worst ST in the league. I mean our ST may even be worse than our run defense which is plain scary. And to add to it our LBs are dropping like flies which is not helping ST in any way shape or form.

So, in other words, on those occasions where the Panthers' D forces punts, the Panthers do better in the field position swap that all but one other team (Chicago).

Arenas has the most impressive stats for PR's thru Wk 5. But, notice that on average, he catches the ball more than ten yards farther down the field than Edwards. Houston's PR gets more than 11 more yards of space to work with.

Notice that when you take away Sproles' (NO, ranked third) one long return, his average falls to near Edwards. If you take away Hester's (Chicago, ranked 1st) one long return v. the Panthers, he has 32 total punt return yards (8yd avg.) the rest of the season so far.

My point is, Edwards has not been stellar so far, but those that have been seem to have longer fields to work with, and his performance so far has not hurt the team. Give him some time, as you can see one or two long returns really boost the average. If the Panthers' PR team rank stays this high and Edwards doesn't turn the ball over, then they're doing their jobs.

If the D would stop the other team in their own end a little more often, you might see some more opportunities for good returns. Carolina currently allows 43% conversions on third down.

whenever he gets some blocking i think he'll start breaking out

as for WR, Rivera said the opportunities aren't there since they aren't running 4 WR sets. I'd like to see them try some of the wildcat with him along with DWill. Or maybe run a reverse with him sometime. give him a chance out there

Why run a wildcat with Edwards when you have Newton who can run just as well and can pass it much better. I would like us to use a 4 or 5 wide set with an empty backfield and let newton run it up the field. If they don't cover everyone we get an easy catch. If we spread them out, we have enough linemen to cover the 4 defensive linemen and the Mike. Should allow big gains either way.

I keep forgetting about Hogan; but I did watch the 30 for 30 last night on ESPN and his name was dropped a couple times. Some scrub sports agent said he really thought he was gonna sign Hogan, and if he did, Hogan would have been the highest drafted player he'd ever represented.

pretty good 30/30 last night, but I expect a little more from Spurlock.

I guess nobody cares about Butler lol

I certainly do. But I still feel we need one more CB from this draft. High if we can. Keep Munny in the slot, Gamble #1 then who ever at #2. Competition breeds greatness, Butler vs. Hogan vs. Draftee (prefer Cliff Harris or Stephon Gilmore).

Butler has done a great job in my opinion so far.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
