The bad news and the good news

The Bad News: We are 1-5 and lead the league in moral victories. Which in reality means frustrating losses.

The Good News: The toughest part of our schedule is behind us. We still have 5 home games left and none of those teams are named New Orleans or Green Bay. And although there are a couple of scary RBs (Johnson and Peterson) left to come to BOA Stadium, all 5 games are very winnable and none of the teams are elite.

The Bad News: Our defense kinda sucks this year and resembles swiss cheese more than smash mouth aggressive football.

The Good News: I'm not going to sugar coat it. I don't feel very confident the in this defensive unit as it stands right now. But keep this in the back of your mind. Next year not only are we going to infuse whatever talent we draft and pick up in free agency, we will also finally have Ron Edwards (solid vet at DT), Jon Beason (the best defender on our roster, simple and plain :cam:), possibly Thomas Davis (although due to the nature of his contract I would be surprised), and Brandon Hogan (a CB that many felt was a first round talent but had injury and character issues). So take those 3/4 players, combine them with the talent we will undoubtedly draft or sign in FA, and merge those with the players we have now and you have pretty good personnel on the defensive side of the ball with a year of experience in this new system.

The Bad News: Legedu Naanee kinda stinks.

The Good News: If Gettis gets healthy and learns the system he is a natural fit for this offense and will stretch the field and will change defensive coverages in ways Naanee and Lafell cannot at this point.

We are all frustrated right now with our record but that doesn't mean the future is not bright here in Carolina.

pretty much agree with everything sans the TD returning part. I'm a huge TD fan and love his attitude about the injury, but I'm just not able to wrap my melon around how he can return a 3rd time and be an effective OLB. I am hoping the best for the guy, but in my mind, I'm penciling in a hole at the Will for now. With a healthy Beason and Anderson out there, we don't need a first rounder to fill the spot, and I think someone like Gaither or a free agent will be okay.

I agree but you never know with Davis or this FO. I don't expect him to be back with us either. As a matter of fact I left him out initially but went back and put him in because, although very unlikely, it is still a possibility.

naanee isn't as bad as he was at the beginning of the season.

time to move on from that.

i don't count losing to the falcons a moral victory. other than naanee not sucking, we didn't improve.

there are no moral victories anymore. it was cute the first few games. it lost it's charm. time to move on from that. we either find a way to win or we find a way to lose games. there is no in between.

this team needs to figure out how to win games now and quit making excuses.

That us why I said "moral victory" in reality means frustrating loss.

And I am glad Naanee didn't suck yesterday. Are you ready to pencil him in as WR2?? Gettis will be a good fit for this offense assuming he returns to form and learns the offense IMO.

    • I really appreciate Bill explaining his methodology here because that gives interested parties a chance to try and recreate the results themselves. I believe that it's safe to assume that despite emphasis being placed on WRs that Chuba Hubbard is one of the Panthers' top-5 weapons. Considering targets, yardage, receptions, etc... Adam Thielen and Xavier Legette are also on the list. Jalen Coker's success might have snuck him in there as well. I can't draw a conclusion on who #5 is though. I've narrowed it down to Diontae Johnson, David Moore, Ja'Tavion Sanders, and possibly Rico Dowdle if they're taking into account his production for the Cowboys in 2024.
    • Unfortunately business is business especially when there are large sums of money on the table. Goes the same for player and ownership. Does not make it right either way.  Why would he not want to play for the niners? Closer to home with a team that has a chance of delivering a SB trophy.
    • I don’t know if it’s him bad mouthing his former situation in public or my pettiness but either way I’m not a fan. Dude was on playoff teams getting paid millions to entertain. I’m not better that because and I am better than that. You don’t bad mouth your former employer in public. Esp after getting over paid and two, poor little Russian baby didn’t get the playing spot he wanted. Rod had him exactly where is was supposed to be.  He had a mean lip check and did defend our players. Specifically the devils game around Christmas where is our Haula on his ass. Cool. Thank you. But don’t talk poo about us. Because it make you look like Haula.    “need to get as far away as possible”. fug off. Didn’t see Burnsy bad mouthing and his play dropped off too.    sorry, but Orlov doesn’t get a pass from me. See you twice a year…
