Update on the offer letter

Well, talked to my buddy and he said they are just waiting on final approval from their mgr to send and to keep in mind I have to pass a background check(a dig on my past).

So here is my new dilemma on this. I took the last 2 days off to buy some time. I'm 95% certain I'm going to be let go any moment.

Part of me wants to go ahead and give the 2 wk notice because I'm 90% certain the letter goes out this week.

That's a calculated gamble.

I prefer that on my record than being let go.

The plus of being let go is however, I would get a very minmal severance pkg. Real bare bones and be eligible for unemployment.

This would be even more of me swallowing some pride but should I just let them cut me loose and if the offer comes in then that's bonus money?

Or, give the 2wks with the letter pending? From a mental health standpoint I flat out need to leave my job. They have killed me 9 straight months.

Never easy is it. Sorry cwg, only a couple more work related posts from me I promise.

I would wait until I got the 2nd job before moving on. You don't want to gamble with the food on your table. If you get "let go" before you get the 2nd job, then you get to bring in some unemployment as well. I know your current job sucks, but the reason why they have been riding your ass for the past few months is because they are trying to make you quit so they don't need to pay you.

razzy i agree but here is the good part. if i leave, i get my pension money now. that is THE only reason i didn't.

im also thinking this, give the 2 wks and if worse case wells pulls back thats cool. i will hustle to find something else but now my wife is working full time and thers a cushion there.

im in cwg's and happys camp on this. i can find folks that will give me a good recom and yeah, they have treated me like crap for a long long time. i have nothing of value except a paycheck from them right now. they have used me and quite frankly, they are on thin ice themselves.

Time to move on.

I'm pretty sure even if you quit that you can still receive unemployment. There is a small waiting period.

Your employer may try to fight it, if so there is a quasi phone adjudication ruling type thing where you just present facts and state you were harassed until you couldn't take it more. Win that your golden.......

If you are fired you will not get unemployment if your employer can show cause..... a problem with your performance, violation of policy, etc. You would have to go through hearings...and the ESC would have to find in your favor.

You definitely do not get it if you quit.

You can not be denined unemployment due to performance. About the only way to be denined is by not showing up to work.

When using an employer as a reference, the only comment, by law, they are allowed to disclose is:

Q: "Is he eligible for rehire?"

A: "Yes" or "No"

Former employers are not allowed to openly discuss the reasons for your departure or firing, it is a violation of labor laws.

You can list specific people you worked with as professional references, but in most cases these days, prospective employers ask you if they have your permission to speak with your former employer. You do not have to grant it, however, look forward to questions from your new employer in that regard.

    • I’m not suggesting that tanking is the right thing to do every time. I do think that if you have guys like Burns and Moore that you will trade anyway, then you should think about tanking and getting max value, especially if you want to grab a QB that might go 1st overall. We tried to do both. Trade CMC for picks but don’t take 3 1sts and a 2nd for Burns and Moore. Instead, we won a few games and then threw in Moore on a trade because we didn’t tank and we gave Burns away for a 2nd. Can you honestly say that fully tanking, by trading away all our best guys who weren’t in future plans, in 2022 wouldn’t have made our team better now? We wanted a rookie QB and we didn’t extend the main guy we didn’t want to trade. We were 100% in full tear down and we could have been a playoff team last year if we used the 4 extra 1sts or 3 1sts and 2 2nds (counting picks saved on Young by being pick 3 or 4 not 9) on D. Culture building is funny. It took three coaching changes to seemingly get there. Morgan and Canales weren’t in charge when we “protected” our culture. We still traded Burns and Moore, we just lost 3 first round picks in the process. Also, do you think the Eagles are in a bad place because of their coach clearly tanking a game for a draft pick? Remember that? It was obvious and the coach was fired. The funny thing is that this is something teams do all the time but they add their stars (like Cam in 2016, CMC, Burns, etc.) to IR or rest them in week 16/17. Pederson was just dumb and made it obvious. He could have just sat his starters to start. Anyway, did that incident tank risk their credibility? Did Barkley decide to not sign with them? Seems like their SB win and other SB visit say they are just fine. Winning makes culture, picking the right coach makes culture, trading away guys who are on other teams in a year for top picks and keeping more picks by having a better starting pick to trade up, does not impact culture. If it helps you win, culture will be fine, ask the Eagles.
