Worrying about Cam leaving in 4 years

Happy Panther

We are already 'worrying' about Cam leaving in FOUR (4) Years?! SERIOUSLY?!

Although there ain't a whole lot of comparison, the 1st year we brought in DelHomme he had a really good year. although he was already under contract, we 'rewarded' him for that good year with a massive new contract rather than giving him a 'bonus'. The following year, DelHomme pretty much $ucked. Part of the reason Jake did so well that 1st year IMO, and only OE of the reasons) is because he came out of nowhere (off the bench) to start. There ain't a whole lot of film on Cam yet. Let's see how teams adjust and how well he plays next year / how well teams play against him next year.

Also, he has played well, beter than expected, but he hasn't won squat. When I was stationed in Ga, I could go to Atlanta's stadium before Vick was drafted, buy a $20 nose-bleed seat, and move down to the 50-yard line to watch the game. After Vick was drafted, the fans were excited, the place was packed (no moving down from the nose-bleed seats anymore)...but they still never won Squat!

- Cam is electric, plays well, has fans excited, is putting butts in the seats...but hasn't won squat. (Do I think he will? Probably so, and he has more talent IMO than Vick.)

Bottom Line: Cam's status as a Panther is not at risk, as you pointed out, for 4 more years, so why are we even beginning to worry about that now?! We should be focusing on getting healthy, assembling the best talent we can, and winning more than 5 games a season...which has been a while now.

It's something people have been discussing. And this is a discussion forum.

Cam is already looking like the definition of a true franchise QB. A once in a lifetime find. Fingers crossed.

As someone who goes to games its an issue I'm interested in.

If Hurney's still here by that time, Cam will be, too. If nothing else, Hurney knows how to keep the players on the team that he wants on the team (see: This past offseason). Cam leaving is likely not something you'll ever have to worry about. I find it hard to believe they'll even let his contract expire without renegotiating it first.

Worrying about what might happen with Cam 4 years from now is like worrying about an asteroid annihilating mankind in 2015. Could it happen? Yes, but both have about the same odds.

You also stand a 1 in 280,000 chance of being struck by lightning this year. Don't go outside

My point is that Cam leaving the Panthers after 4 years is on par with an asteroid hitting the Earth- yes, you are correct.

This isn't the NBA of MLB where the big-market teams are the only true contenders. GB won the SB last year, and they are the smallest market in the NFL.

Every team can compete and pay their players. Players from smaller markets can get national endorsement deals b/c the league is so popular everywhere.

People still seem to be paranoid b/c of Peppers leaving. First off, Peppers is the only Panther player ever to leave just b/c he didn't want to be in Charlotte. Other players may have had issues with the coaches, etc., but I don't think that made any difference to Peppers. Look at what a mess Chicago is right now with the coaching staff/front office.

I don't think anyone will truly know exactly why he left except Peppers. All we can do is specualte.

I think something happened during the 2007 season when he only had 2.5 sacks. That was the year Jenkins said he questioned the "heart" on the team and seemed to be calling out Peppers. Peppers never seemed to be "all-in" after that. And honestly he did seem to be "all-in" before, at least to me.

During 2008, he never really talked to the media, and he waved to the crowd after the 2008 Playoff debacle like he was never going to be back.

Hurney forced him to stay during 2009, and even though he played well enough to get a contract, you could tell he could give 2 craps about the team or the city.

Also, before the 2008 season JR called him out about being a leader. Just don't think Peppers wanted that role. And still doesn't. One of the greatest physical talents ever, but little heart.

Look at Newton now. He has unwordly talent and unwordly heart to match it. Will be a Panther for life.

what the f**k is wrong with people? the guy who was poo on by every team except the one that took him #1 overall and risked everything on him would leave?

#1s don't leave cause they want to leave. they usually leave cause they suck. franchise QB is here to stay

really?! this is the second thread on this.

    • I said could, not would. I recognize he has potential based on past performance. Compared to what KP has done, Howell has more potential and the physical traits to make noise. KP has small hands and a weak arm. Not something you want in even your backup QB.  I've been hammering since last off-season before we re-signed Dalton, improve the room. Other than getting younger, I don't see how anyone can say we legitimately improved the room or even tried. We might as well have signed Josh Rosen.  Dalton is still on the roster for now. That's 3 QBs unless we trade or cut him. He's still Bryce's mentor after all. Do you believe we are going to draft someone with potential and give them a legitimate opportunity to develop from the practice squad? Are we going to carry 3 QBs on the active roster? 4 for a developmental rookie? Are we going to potentially cut KP if we draft a rookie and he's outperformed? Doubtful. Cutting Dalton(if we can't trade him) and KP would be 8m in wasted cap space.  I chose Howell as an example because he showed promise in his only full season as a starter. You could plug in another name with the physical traits and potential and what i said would still apply. KP showed almost nothing and was benched. I genuinely don't care if it’s rookie pick as long as there is the potential to develop into a future NFL QB.  As much as I can't stand him, Bellichek was always developing a number 2 QB even with the GOAT as his starter. The wisdom of that was evident when Cassell came in when Brady was hurt week 1 and went 11-5 and almost made the wildcard, which 11-5 gets you almost any other year. I give credit where it's due though. Cassel and Jimmy G both came into the league as developmental QBs, potential QB1s, and went on to have careers.  You never know if you never try. KP feels like a punt in addressing the most important position on the field. Bryce has never played 2 full games of franchise QB level football back to back.  If Bryce progresses, are you ready to offer a 280m 5 year extension based off a one hit wonder year? If Bryce regresses and we need a QB in 27, are we going to trade a fortune away again to trade up to 1 to get one? Are you ready to do the past 3 years all over again?  To me, it's not about Kenny Pickett. It's about the move itself. It was a feeble attempt to improve the QB room. We better hope Bryce succeeds, because if he doesn't, we literally have no backup plan right now.
    • IOL that early isn’t good value at all. We have a LT who might not ever be good again and a RT that might retire soon. T seems deep early in this draft, so I’d go there in the 1st.
    • Season tickets aren't affordable anymore definitely when they've been so bad for 8 years before last season. When I started going my seats were front row uppers for like 38 bucks. Those seats are 100 dollars now. Teams make their money from tv, if I was an owner my goal would be to break even on tickets and concessions.
