How Long Can Steve Smith and Deangelo Williams Play in the NFL?

I'm very curious as to what you guys think, since these guys are such an integral part of our offense.

Sorry if this has been addressed before, I've been having serious problems with the huddle thread search function lately.

feel free to say how long other people on the team will last.

And how long do RB's and WR's usually last in general?

Smitty has about 5.5 years left I'd say.

Dwill imho won't play his entire 5 year big money contract here so many people bitch about. I say he'll be gone after the guaranteed 21 mill portion is done so probably 3 years. Maybe re-sign here or somewhere else for less cash after that if he's still healthy.

Hard to say with Smitty. Seems the receivers who last little longer are big guys who don't need to be fast or great route runners, big attacking receivers. Of corse this isn't always the case. Smitty relies on speed but at the same time he can run a crisp route. Route-running and faking/deception are something Smitty does really well. He also fights for the ball. I think he'll have to focus on those things to be able to last. I would say after next year we'll start to notice him slowing down but I think he will still be a good WR for years to come. But who knows really.

Dwill will probably last 2-3 years longer than the average back. He split carries and that's why he'll last. RBs usually last depending on how their used with some exceptions.

I believe Dwill will be in his prime all the way until his contract starts to end, around then I think you'll notice he isn't as quick.

Once again no one really knows, it's just a matter of how far their bodies can take them, because mentally these guys can play forever.

i could be mistaken, but isn't his $16 million dollar signing bonus included in his contract?

if that's the case, the $21 million guaranteed is just wording...he's pocketing almost 23 of the $43 million this season alone.

Smitty and D-Lo are still relatively young in my eyes. ;)

That video in your sig makes me want us to run the ball more. Go figure. We've had one real memorable run all year and that was DWill's option play...well it should have been two....but Stew's got called back in the Jaguars game. Such a travesty. That would have made the top 10 highlights of the year.

I'm still pulling for Cam to have a 65 yarder for a TD.

Yes the signing bonus is part of the guaranteed money, so yes he's getting around 22.6 million of his 43 million this year. His cap hit for this season is around 7 million if I remember correctly.

five-year, $43 million contract. The deal contains $21 million guaranteed, including a $16 million signing bonus and $5 million of Williams' second-year base salary.

    • Well he quickly deflected the question about Rico's "almost 7 YPC." He is very polished and he transitioned well to non-answers and side steps. I can see why a guy like him was able to pull the wool over on guys like Tepper.
    • 31st rushing D and 8 carries by Rico is coaching.  Rico is easily the best offensive weapon right now and it’s not really close.  *literally everyone knows Dalton is washed, horrible and shouldn’t even be a backup QB.   Drive 1? ZERO carries.  Coaching.  Drive 2 - Rico was playing great.   Did Canales lean into that or go for “balance”? Coaching. Drive 3 - ZERO carries.  Coaching  Drive 4 - 1 carry and opted for Jimmy Horn gadget rush (you can’t stick  with the Horn repetitive gadget runs each week and that’s not a better idea than getting Rico going)  Drive 5 - basically Dalton heavy as the half expired.  I don’t need to watch a game to know it’s coaching.  The gameplan wasn’t about setting Rico up to go off on a trash rush D.  It was bullshit harmony balance of the rush and the pass and making Hubbard feel good.
    • In the locker room after the Dallas game, multiple  players said FEED him when Canales mentioned Rico stats. That already made me think even the locker room wouldn't care if Rico got the touches rn. This is on Canales indeed and I agree n the Qb take.  We aren't winning  bc of Bryce  but he has been managing it. Had the Jets had Qb aptitude,  we could've probably  lost that game too. All they would've needed is 14 points. Regardless, we got a team  that's being built up and that position needs an overhaul.  If ww lock in to Bryce, it'd be no different  than the 49ers locking into Purdy. Can't do it!
