Let's give special teams some love.

A volcano of sh*tty posters has risen from dormancy and exploded, launching the reeking lava of tripe and hogwash all over Pantherland's interwebz. But there is a bright spot.

Special teams was glorious today. I almost had a seizure when Pilares ran that back for a touchdown. The holes were wide open. First KO return for a TD since 2003, when Rod Smart did it, and today's return set a franchise record in that statistic at 101 yards.

I gaped at the tv as it happened, expecting a flag the entire time, but they pulled it off. Unreal.

On kickoff coverage they were solid. Josh Vaughn made the most of his promotion to a starter on the unit and played at a very high level, including a huge tackle on the first play of the game.

Defense was beyond abysmal, Cam Newton had accuracy issues - but special teams had moved on from the short bus. Congrats to Brian Murphy for getting his unit fired up and motivated to play actual football. Hopefully this will be a bright spot moving forward.

Still don't trust either kicker... But, I noticed both Vaughn and Wilson in coverage today and they were great additions.

Pilares came through for me as I basically founded his fanclub here during the draft, but those next few returns we could've done without lol.

And I was really surprised with Armanti.

Sadly, it was all for naught.

Vaughn did have a good day on ST, nice observation

That Pilares kid looks like an NFL Player. And Armanti actually had some space! Coverage wasn't terrible either.

Yea I still am not sure about our kickers but hopefully we have some momentum we can build on.

Going to love how the team looks after we get a full offseason of minicamps.

    • No saying he mostly sucks is saying that he doesn’t suck the minority of the time.   Like if he took 17 tests and had a couple of really good showings and a handful of pretty good scores sprinkled in among the typical sub par results.   Like a golfer who went out and shot an 89.  There will be some real nice shots sprinkled in there but at the end of the day it is still 89.
    • It's worth mentioning... Game 1: Oct 11 in Raleigh. 4-3 OT win with a complete starting lineup. Game 2: Dec 13 in Philly. 4-3 SO win without Jaccob Slavin. Game 3: Dec 14 in Raleigh. 3-2 SO win with a complete starting lineup. Game 4: Apr 13 in Philly. 3-2 SO loss with the AHL roster.  Those early season games were no indication of the Canes team that finished the season. Miller and Ehlers were still trying to figure things out, Nikishin was still a work in progress and the Stankoven line was just another line. Make no mistake, the Canes team Philly will see is nothing close to what they saw at any point in the season. If the top line starts producing, Freddie stays hot and the blue line does what it does, this could be a sweep as well.
