If you do get caught by the preaching type I have found it is just best to agree with everything they say. They will be out of your hair in less than 2 minutes.

Just have them salute an American flag. Tell them that you will listen to them if they will do that little patriotic gesture.

They will not as they see it as worshipping the flag and will leave.

I feel the same about anybody going door to door, be it religious folk or sales people... if I wanted/needed something, I would go get it... don't bother me at my home.
