My Plan for the Draft

Recommended Posts

Here it is. We lose out, the other teams win out and give us the 2nd overall pick. If Kalil is there, we draft him. If he stays in school, we trade back, pick up an extra 1st this year and next year, along with an extra 2nd this year, and draft accordingly. Then next year with our two 1sts, we trade up and select Kalil. How about it?

I do not see us loosing out. I think we loose in Houston Sunday....Reliant Stadium has been a house of horrors for us, and the Texans D is stout. I think we beat Tampa Bay Christmas Eve at BoA ( a glimpse of the future and a stocking stuffer for the fans). New Orleans?, if they rest their starters we win, if not...?? Anyway the draft will be interesting. I think we all know the needs are many. My "wish" list includes a big athletic WR, plus help at LB and of course secondary help. And for God's sakes get a kicker!!!!

Get off the Kalil train.. it's not going to happen man. The Rams and Vikings may not win another game all season.. neither will Cleveland. 2 of those 3 teams need an OT.. and Kalil fits the bill.

And we are not going to lose to the Bucs.

I think realistically, we may be picking either 3rd or 4th overall. It could be that the Rams trade out with another team looking to take a QB. So if we are in the third position, Kalil could fall to us. I know I ramble on and on about Kalil, but you saw what Ryan did out there yesterday. How he was getting down the field and making blocks. His brother is a much better prospect coming out. It's time we had a sure fire star at LT, to give Cam sufficient protection.

If Kalil is available, there's no way we shouldn't draft him. His last name bumps his value to our team *a little*, but you'd think his value to our team would be a little more than others too because (assuming they have a good relationship) it would help the chemistry of the O-line (probably the most important single group in the game to have good chemistry) and also help with resigning the both of them. They might be more willing to take a little less pay to stay together and be less tempted to leave in free agency with the two of them together. His value to the Panthers goes beyond the simple value of a potential elite LT. With Gross getting up there in age, and his play seeming to decline the past couple years (at least in my opinion) we could extend Gross's career a little by putting him on the right side where a quick step is less vital and have Cam's blind side protected for the next decade+.

WE ARE NOT DRAFTING KALIL EVEN IF HES AVAILABLE. Some of you want him purely because of his last name. Get over it

That's a stupid a post as I've read on here, and that's saying something with the likes of TRD, KT, PFFL, etc.

His last name has nothing to do with it for me, but pedigree does carry weight with a lot of scouts-> See Pouncey.

However, Matt is the unquestioned top OT in the draft, the type who protect your QB's blindside for 10+ years. He's a sure top 3 pick unless trades for QB's get crazy.

He'd be BPA damn near regardless of where we pick.

    • I'm probably one of those posters, but I make those posts because there are too many things going on that don't make sense. For instance, how does a RB that does something that hasn't been done in 14 years immediately get reverted back to 2nd string, and it takes a leadership council to make him the starter when he's averaging 3x the YPC? Your average fan shouldn't be screaming that for 2 weeks before the coach sees it. And that's one of many.  What you're seeing is frustration that we could be better, that we should be better, if our owner, FO, and coaches could do things that are so painfully obvious to even the most basic fan
    • Cowboys. Patriots. Couldn't ask for two bigger villains.
    • I think we're all struggling with what things are right now and what they have been. It's like getting ready to have bandages removed after a long period of injury. The healing, the new growth, they aren't going to be pretty, there's going to be some ongoing issues for a while at best and there's every chance that we're going to have to go back into the bandage situation all over again. And that sucks. But it's also a place where maybe, just maybe, the recovery is going to finally start happening. The bad days will be getting behind us.  It's not going to happen this year, but I believe from what I see that this year is showing that improvement. We focus on the QB because that's what all the pundits focus on, because it's the flashiest and most heralded position on the field. No one wants to put out a tweet about how a center is holding down their job and anchoring a line. They rarely celebrate that blocking tight end or special teams gunner. That fourth CB on the depth chart? Not a mention. And yet, those guys are the kind that we've been building here, we're building the lunch pail guys AND finding some future stars.  Is Bryce one of them? Might be a cornerstone of the team in the future as the second QB, might somehow just show out to end the season. Might flame out like many expect. But if that uncertainty is all we concentrate on, we're just going to miserably look at this team and maybe miss out on some solid green shoots that are finally beginning to poke through into the sunlight.
