Newton has two votes from the analysts. The Golden Calf of Bristol got a vote from Adam Rank...ewwww. Even Trent Dilfer didn't make the probowl in 2000.

It's hard to say if Newton is a top 3 Qb in the NFC, but I think Newton is certainly pro-bowl worthy if Vince Young was able to make it in 07. But Considering Brees or Rodgers will not be playing then i think Newton is a shoe in as an alternate.

Smitty gets a nod from all the analysts. Except for Adam Rank, the same guy who voted for The Golden Calf of Bristol.

Gross gets votes from 4 of the analysts. Kalil gets 5.

Charles Johnson gets a nod from Gil Brandt.

Chris Gamble is absent from all lists.

Adam Rank doesn't think Smitty is worthy of the pro-bowl but apparently he's a Charles Godfrey fan. Last year Godfrey had misleading stats but he looks better this year.

Gamble seems to be the obvious omission... we can talk Newton all we want, it's debatable.

I haven't paid much attention, what other NFC corners are worthy of pro bowl consideration? Asomugha is on a crappy team, but has he played well? Tillman, haven't seen him much.. obviously Woodson is good. Who else?

Cam could make it due to him being so popular. Rodgers, Stafford, Manning, Romo, Ryan, Brees... all could finish ahead of him. And one of those guys will probably skip the game anyway because they'll be in the Super Bowl.

Smitty is obviously going to get voted in.

Gross and Kalil should make it. I think Gross has only allowed 4 sacks this year compared to 10+ last season when he made it... can both get in on name recognition.

On defense you could make a case for Charles Johnson but there's also Jared Allen, Peppers, Pierre-Paul, Justin Smith, Babin, Chris Long, Clemons, etc.

Gamble should definitely be going. I'd be surprised if he didn't get in based on player/coach votes. Webster, Asomugha, Grimes, Carlos Rogers, Woodson, Tramon Williams, and Asante Samuel will be contending. They're all more popular and put up flashier stats for the fans.

    • As I've said numerous times the last few days, having Thielen on the field has literally 0% to do with my views on this (I've even said I think Renfrow is going to take a ton of snaps from Thielen anyways).  He has more value to this team without playing a single snap than a 2026 5th round draft pick does for the franchise.   His value is helping set up T-Mac, XL, Coker, and Horn for long term success by helping them learn how to be pros, how to go about their business, how to train, how to do all the little things that helped turn Thielen from a D2 undrafted player into a borderline Vikings legend.
    • He only wants to be traded because it's the Vikings who are calling. If he didn't want to be here, he could have retired, instead he took a pay raise to come back for another season.  I get it, it's an opportunity that he'd like to take, but we shouldn't cut off our nose to spite our face because he now wants to jump at this opportunity less than two weeks before the season starts. I'm not against trading him, I'm just against trading him for a return that doesn't help our team as much as having him on the roster would.  I'll put it this way, if a 5th is the best we can get for him from the Vikings and he's now dug in on not wanting to stay this year, I'm saying screw you and trading him to any of the other 30 teams besides the Vikings for the best offer we can get. He was perfectly happy here a week ago, if the Vikings soured him on that and then want to get him for peanuts, then screw them both.
    • Yes and no, he wants to go back and his wife most definitely wants to go back. He took a bunch of team mates to Minny and has worked out with JJ two offseasons in a row. It's where both him and his wife are from.    The money was basically a please come back and help Bryce. Pretty please...here's some more money.    Now he's agreed to a paycut to go back to the Vikings.
